Zombie tools gladius VS. RMJ Tactical Wyvern

I'm currently interested in buying either the rmj Tactical wyvern sword or the zombie tools Gladius.
The problem is I'm not certain which one would be better the Gladius is 5160 Steel and the RMJ wyvern is cpm3v steel. My question is which one is better all-around in terms of durability. (Example: Cutting through a car hood. !!!NOT GONNA DO THAT!!!) & holding an edge. I plan on having this for survival situations and want the better of the two.

'Survival situation?'
For cutting stuff or people? Maybe you could be more specific. For example, if you plan on doing any hiking etc in the survival scenario, neither might be very practical.
Either way, a Smatchet might be the better answer. Have you considered one?

Lol. I would say cutting stuff. No i have not. I am more interested in the rmj wyvern, but with literally no review vids on it, as opposed to the numerous reviews on zomboe tools, its hard for me to go with a steel that, no pun intended, hasnt haf its metal proven.

CPM-3Vs mettle is plenty proven. Not least in the versions, that Carothers have made.
Again, I suggest a more convenient size for a survival scenario (Smatchet, CPK Chopper, Mecha Mecha Siberian Slasher etc) but its your money and you buy, which ever you fancy.
The RMJ is no doubt a fine blade/steel.
The Gladius-like blade likewise t(though the latter is somewhat limited by its blade design).

What kind of survival situations do you want a double-edged stabbing sword or an overly short slashing sword for?

The Zombie Tools gladius's stated weight is heavy for its size compared to more faithful replicas by about 6-10 oz., and I imagine it is unwieldy.

The Wyvern is almost too short to really be a sword and a bit too big to just be a large knife. It has the design aesthetic of a modern knifemaker rather than a swordmaker.

I'm not really sure how either would feel in hand and suspect they both feel a bit unbalanced. I'd give the edge to the Wyvern, though, based on 3V (not that there's anything wrong with 5160) and the fact that it's basically a heavy chopping knife, and modern makers have a better handle on that sort of thing than they do swords, although I'm not sure the edge I give the Wyvern is worth the substantial price difference.

I glad their are alot of people who can direct me to the better options. To be honest i might also consider the sharkelope from zombie tools. Swords and machetes cant replace a good hatchet and or tomahawk, but its still something i would like to carry

Okay, you seem hell bent on one of these sword-like objects and thats fine.
How ever, it might not be optimal for a hitherto unspecified 'survival' scenario … unless you are a 'Walking Dead' devotee.

My final question would be about how to sharpen cpm 3v. Since it is much harder than most steels what would be the best way to sharpen ot. Asides from taking ot somewhere to be sharpened.

It's not harder than most steels. RMJ heat treats them to RC58-60, which is in keeping with the times. Sharpen as usual for a high-alloy steel.

I bet the RMJ one would be more useful, but the swell in width being right in the middle of the blade seems odd. With a budget of $700 you have a lot of great options, I'd say!

I can't imagine a survival situation short of facing a Gaulish horde with your legion where the gladius is very practical. It's okay if you just want one. You would not believe the host of impractical blades I have. I would not take them hiking (or anywhere really) but I still like having them. Some people collect stamps...

I have different blades as well but dont consider them impractical at all.
You never know when a detachment of Napoleonic cavalry might charge you.
I have the blades to repel them, I just hope I can reach my Shetlandpony in time.

Lol. In all honest it is silly to drag a gladius into the woods. I saw some of skallagrims videos on the zombie tools blades and when i saw this i was excited. I also own some rmj blades and tomahawks and figured it might be a good try, but with no review vids on it and a large price tag i have been hesitant to go for it, but i am really leaning to getting this blade

You heard different opinions.
In the end you should buy what you fancy - its your money.
And as per usual; buy both!

Unless one of those is what you really want, I think a Khuk would be a better option.

Exactly, or as another commenter said- a smatchet. From what he's describing wanting to use it for I'd say a smatchet is an excellent choice.

Personally I would look at different options but between them I am easily more comfortable selecting the RMJ as the design of it seems far more practical and at least potentially useful in the real world.
