ZT 0301 Cancelled?

Reread the statement you wrote. It makes it sound like Canadians only exist in Canada. There are people that travel and have family in the US, they buy goods here, and travel back home. The way you write it makes it seem harsh and can completely gives a negative impression of one of the best sellers around. You were already given some advice, sound advice I might add. Search through the list of dealers, see if they have stock and if they ship to Canada. Short of that, start searching on eBay, or look into the Canadian knife stores. You can find just about any knife you want, what it depends on is how badly you want it and how much work YOU are willing to put into the search and acquisition. It's like you want someone else to do your legwork.

They come up on the exchange every so often. I bought two from the exchange and have sold one there as well. I don't like shipping outside the states but have done so to Canada and would do so again if the expense is covered by the buyer. Rev is right. How bad do you want the knife? I mean, it was discontinued a while ago and you are just getting around to it now....

And just to put some more pep in your step here is mine! It is a deassisted version with a custom detent hole added (otherwise it can't be deassisted properly). It is a 303 with a 301 green scale. This puppy isn't going anywhere. Much better deassisted.

Warriors and Wonders has it in stock.
It costs a LOT though...the damned Canadian dollar dropping in value has done that to us. :(

But it's already on this side of the border, and you'll have it in hand very quickly. :)

Yeah that's where I was trying to lead him with my previous post...

W&W were very quick to deal with when I bought from them... Personally I like the ideal and the feel in hand of the 300 series, but I didn't like the blade thickness and the slicing cutting... ended up sticking with my BM 710's and trying spydie Farid K2... both reground to be very thin edge lasers...

Warriors and Wonders? Sounds like an awesome gaming store that runs D&D and Warhammer tournaments on the weekends.

The last batch of discontinued ZTs (not carried from the 2015 to the 2016 catalog) were: 0560BW, 0301, 0350SWCF and 0010TI.

Check the ZT 2016 CATALOG for the latest catalog / regular production models.

well crap, looks like I need to grab a 0350swcf before the stock runs dry....

When they started up over a decade ago, they had some odd things, including a $3000 chess table that looked amazing.

Now they have a huge selection of high-end production knives, and have added a huge selection of low-end knives for the budget-minded as well.
The prices were great till the US dollar changed.

Still, probably the widest selection of Spyderco and Emerson knives anywhere in Canada. :)

Discontinuing the 300 series was as asinine move on KAI's part. That's right up there with BM discontinuing the Stryker, 710, or 530, or Spydie discoing the Endura/Delica/Police.

It's actually a pretty standard and smart business practice. You take production capacity that is currently being taken up by an old model that doesn't sell as well as it used to and you replace with with a new model that will sell better.

Sorry, I should worded my statement better haha. I know, I have placed an order through Knife Center, but they are out of stock and I am unsure if they can get the knife to sell me. I have also found many good store recommended by users if knifecenter cannot procure a ZT 0301.

I bought my first ZT through W&W (0350WW). They appear to have the 0301 in stock according to the website :)

The first 0350 model was released in 2009 and the last one in December 2014. So, 0350's days may be numbered too!

You can still find that last model released which was a limited run 0350CFM390 (M390 steel two-tone blade with CF scales) at KershawGuy.

^This. It amazes me that people (some) seem to think that knife companies make random, irrational decisions about their product line. The fact of the matter is that they know what's selling well and what isn't. They're in contact with their dealers, keep meticulous records and statistics and know exactly the sales performance of every knife in their lineup. With very few exceptions, every model has a natural lifespan. Once it reaches the end, it's discontinued (even though there are always some people who want it) and production and marketing resources are devoted to new models. Just because "you" want one doesn't mean that continuing production makes good business sense.

Yes, but the issue with this change is the new knives suck. If you produce "high quality military" knives you cannot expect high turn over as the knives are supposed to be built to last people. ZT 0301 was the highest selling ZT on amazon etc. so clearly people were stilling buying it, and also the ZT 0560 was a great knife but idk how well it sold.

The new knives don't suck. In fact they are more hard use than the 301. Think about it. That big old thick tank of a knife has all its function depend on a tinny metal torsion bar that can break. Once that goes your knife blade will not stay closed. The new ZTs do not have this design liability. What happens when you are behind enemy lines just chopping up sentries and your torsion bar breaks? What then? SOL son ;)

But seriously, they know what they are doing. Most of the people who wanted a 301 have them already. It is a niche market expensive knife. They weren't going to produce it forever. I think the discontinue of the 0560 is much more shocking but the same thing is true that they made tens of thousands of them already.

That's your opinion and many think otherwise.

ZT 0301 first came out in 2006 so it's bound to sell quite a few including the serrated version. There were also the various 0300, 0302 and 0303 models which add up to more related sales. However, I doubt that 0301 was the "highest selling ZT on amazon etc.". That title probably belongs to the 0350/0360 series which had 25 different models released since 2009!

Manufacturers are in the business of making money and some have capacity issues. In time, the slow movers get discontinued.

Cancelled? You mean discontinued. You can't cancel awesomeness IMHO. ;):D:rolleyes:

The saying goes: "A ZT in the hand is worth a lot more than the one you do not have..." LOL. ;)

Buy one; you won't regret it. I had three at one point, great knives and an excellent example of the ZT brand.:thumbup::cool:
