SAKs & Other Knives - Carried Together

...so for the last few months its been a Hiker paired with a Buck 301 every day, regardless of the situation. I've become pretty confident that combo will get me through any jam, right up to a wilderness survival situation, with flying colors.
Another excellent combo. I've carried both a Hiker and a 301 extensively as individuals and agree that together, they should easily handle most anything asked of a pocketknife.
Lately I'm finding more use for a nail file than the saw, here's a suitable combo for that.

At some point I realized that about the only things I really needed the scissors for could be better handled by a finger nail clipper. So now I simply keep a nail clipper on my keys, and cary 3 tiered SAK models involving a Saw pretty much exclusively. I'll take some pictures the next time I'm out.

jmh33 jmh33 with all our EDC pouch talk my young fella wanted his own. So today he has his emergency pouch including a 58mm Classic. I have my ESEE 4.

He has a snack and toy trains sealed in plastic for emergencies, a couple of Band-Aids, his Classic to open the (emergency only) sealed bags, a piece of string, a torch in case we have a blackout and his all important harmonica. We may have to update this in a few months when he adds some more items.

From about '98 untill 2007. The SAK is basically an economy Recruit, which at one point was called the "Driver" model, the other knife needs no introduction LOL.

2008 untill 2023. Farmer and Grohmann No1, a very tough pair to beat.

Big changes in 2023, love the Hiker, not totally settled on an optimal pairing. Just got the Vantage Pro Hunter, so far I like it.

You can get a lot done with that combo right there. I need to pick up one of the vintage USA made sharp fingers. The newer ones (under the brand old timer) are decent but I’m told the quality of the old schrade is far better.

Yeah, I got a lot of mileage out of those two knives, especially considering the price. IIRC the "Driver" used to go on sale at Canadian Tire for about $6.99, and the Sharp Finger would have been around $30.

Another combo I rescued from the FIL's toolbox, as well as the sharpening stone which seems like a rather nice one. This SAK is also a camper but its got nylon scales and no toothpick/ tweezers, some older economy model I guess. Once again, the other knife needs no introduction.

I think I will give the two Campers to my daughters. They both have Tinkers, but I just picked up Felix Immler's book "Whittling in the Wild" for them, and it seems like the saw is used quite often for his projects. Planning to quit my job an spend the summer road tripping/ camping with them, so I think the book and knives will make a good gift when we hit the road.
