I messed up the tang on this one, so tried forge welding a mild steel one on. It's functional, but not very good.
If i was going to do this deliberately i needed to add the tang before drawing out the blade. Forge welding to a thin kitchen knife blade is not easy. Maybe in hind sight i should have cleaned off the blade an reused it as san-mai core material

Getting ready to go to the Virginia International Tattoo and thought you chaps might like my tie and tie pin. I got the tie from the Smithsonian Museum.
The tie pin is a miniature wakizashi about 2" long. I made the blade in platinum, koshirae in gold, and the wrap is silk. It has two pins on the back to keep from turning or catching things. It disassembles into 9 parrts and the ito (plus the two welded on pins and clutches).tie 1.jpgtoe 2.jpgtie.jpg
