Ive done this the past couple of years [here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1017174-AFAustin-s-quot-Going-to-the-Dogs-quot-Christmas-Sale-Sale-Over-amp-Donation-Made and here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...uot-Going-to-the-Dogs-quot-Sale-(Traditionals)], and it has been fun and a success so I'm going to do it again.
We are dog lovers in my family, always have been, always will be. Our local Austin Humane Society does excellent work for the pups (and other critters) and the past two years I made them the beneficiary of this sale. I love the AHS and will continue to support them, but Ive got a new beneficiary for the sale this year. Recently Ive become familiar with the Highland Lakes SPCA, a no-kill shelter which is a bit closer to where we live: http://www.highlandlakesspca.org/ They are wonderful people and do a whole lot of good for the pups. They are in the process of building a new shelter for the rescues they take in, and could use the funds.
So at the conclusion of this year's sale, I will donate the total gross proceeds to the Highland Lakes SPCA. I'll post the receipt here in the thread, to show I kept my commitment and didn't blow it on knives! I ran this by our friendly neighborhood supermod before I did the first one of these sales, and he kindly gave me the green light (thanks, Mike).
Please excuse the poor pics. I have hit a busy period at work and so time is short, but I wanted to go ahead and get this sale going. Fortunately, several of the knives have better pics in other threads and I have included the links in the knife descriptions.
Finally, I had originally said "U.S. only" on this sale because of the time crunch I am in, but have been persuaded to go ahead and do international. I have listed my normal international sales policies at the end of this sales thread.
All that said, lets get to the knives!
1) Laguiole Fontenille Pataud, re-handled by glennbad. This is a very special knife because it was given to me as an incredibly generous and unexpected gift by my friend, Jon (klineh). I told the story here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1221829-A-Big-Thank-You-to-Jon-(klineh)! Jon had earlier told the story of how it was re-handled by glennbad here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1199775-So-I-sent-glennbad-a-couple-of-busted-up-rotten-knives?highlight=glennbad+busted
So, this is a knife with lots of history, but very little actual use. That is because, for me, this is one of those knives that is just too pretty to use! Jon is not only a great friend, but he has also been a huge supporter of my Going to the Dogs sales in past years, so I thought it was fitting that I will turn his wonderful gift into something which will support this cause that he and I both believe in.
Dimensions:
Blade is a hair over 3 1/2" (a hair over 3 1/4" cutting edge).
Closed length is 4 1/4".
Handle width is 5/8".
This knife has an excellent carbon blade which Jon sent to me well sharpened.
Please note: The blade has good snap and Jon recommends easing it shut so that it doesnt bounce off the spring and cause a flat spot.
Finally, please refer to Jons referenced thread above for much better pics of this great knife than the ones I posted here.
Includes nice leather sheath. $95.00 SOLD
2) 2014 BladeForums Knife. A real beauty. New and unused. Outstanding and well matched stag, and blade is centered.
Includes tube and wax paper. $135.00 SOLD
3) Schrade 5OT. This very nice knife also came to me in the form of a generous and unexpected gift from esteemed forum member markpmc (Mark), as I related here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1124993-A-Big-Thank-You-to-markpmc-(for-a-Great-5OT)! I have used this knife and enjoyed it and now its time for someone else to have some fun with it. It wouldnt be right to sell such a kind gift under normal circumstances, but since its benefitting the pups, I think its OK (and I hope Mark agrees!). No blade play. It is sharpened to a nice edge.
My referenced thread above has better pics of this knife than the ones I posted here.
Includes the handsome Schrade leather pouch as shown. $35.00 SOLD
4) Schrade 12OT. Not the usual brown but rather the much rarer black delrin sawcut. Has been sharpened to a nice edge and used lightly.
No box. $30.00 SOLD
5) Schrade 12OT. Not the usual brown but rather the much rarer green delrin sawcut. Has been sharpened to a nice edge and used lightly.
No box. $30.00 SOLD
