Here I will post pictures of the JK Knife that I will use during the current week. Please feel free to play along; post pictures of your JK of the week or your version of the one I am carrying. Please also feel free to post pictures of what you are using your JK for, and also name the knife please.

This week I am going to use one of the first knives that I bought from John - the Camp/Survival Kit. This kit included a sheath with a pouch made to accommodate a Victorinox Farmer - I filled the pouch with an Alox version.
The knife was ordered with a clip-point, part of the tang at the butt exposed, maple burl scales, hollow pins and 1/4" 01 stock. The thong is from a JK Supporter who was active years ago but no longer visits the forum Peter @KYenglish

Nice, Beefy looking set up!
I'm not an exposed tang kind of guy..... but I like Everything else about this knife.
Do you know if your maple is stabilized, or left/finished normal?

Looking forward to future entries.

Can't resist making it a twofer!

My Camp Knife, the JK I use the most. Well, not in a little while but once the shoulder heals up enough to get back out there I will.
That one looks Pretty, Beastly, and........Useful.
Rare combination.
Nice knife!

That camp knife is awesome! If you don't mind, what is the overall length? I have one that I will need to dig out to compare. Yes, I have too many knives...

My first knife of the week will likely be a Riverwoods Companion in S30V. I finally got the nerve to put it to a Edge Pro after practicing on lesser blades, and wow is it scary sharp. Bad part is I can't carry every day here.

I blindly dipped into the "big bag of JKs" and pulled out..... The Gambler's Bowie!

John had made a special limited run of these, and I think he did sell 6 or 7, and he made a beautiful version for himself with white/cream micarta linen scales. I should have bought that one when he sold it!
He offered the knife with a coffin handle or a more standard handle. I opted for the coffin style in maple burl.

He turned out a beauty for me and then I sent the knife out to New Mexico (I think that is where it was) to a young man that used to frequent the forum named Noah Legel. Noah made what he called an Apocalyptic finish on his leather goods, so I opted for that finish on my Bowie sheath.

Following are pictures of that knife and sheath, followed by a link to all of the pictures I have of the knife on my server.

Pictures on my web site -

I found this thread that discusses John making a Bowie. I remember Pitdog from that thread. Back then, John went by Stomper on the forum.

Thanks to the folks who have posted here - I like seeing the knives!

mqqn - Super cool thread. I love seeing the excellent knives John has made. I use a number of the ones I have every week. It just hurts when you show a cool knife and I can't have it built. Keep the hurt going! I love seeing all the great work John has crafted over the years. I also know that your collection is beyond extensive. Thanks for sharing!

TLA TLA I would love to see that one again, it is a beauty.
Looking back at the Bowles, John offered a recurve or straight edged version. Obviously I opted for straight.

Good to see you posting M Mr. Bill , hope you are well.

I am hoping JK Knives JK Knives posts his recollections on knives posted here. This thread is for all JK fans so post em up!

I will mention that the Bowie that TLA has is the only one made from 1/4” thick steel.
In general terms, 1/4" is too thick for most knives JMOHO. I prefer thinner stock and a flat grind for most stuff but of course, I can see situations where a beefier blade might be called for.

Hey Rob! Yes - unless you are just going for massive (think Busse etc) I agree - for any real cutting you do want thin behind the edge. Interestingly, Busse has come out with the "mega" grind - it is very thick at the spine but thin on the edge - I have a couple and they slice tomatoes very thin - but generally speaking you are correct. I will be posting at least one knife I had John make in 1/4" - but that is for the future as.....

This week I pulled the Skinny Muk out of the big-bag of JKs. This knife was given to me by John at a Michigan gathering, perhaps even the gathering where I did the fire-walk! ( jds1 jds1 JK Knives JK Knives - and I am not sure who else was there besides Jack Daniel and Captain Morgan...)

The Skinny Muk sports a very thin K-treet blade (JK's proprietary 01 heat treat - I call it that anyway) - and his signature torched-oak scales.
The sheath was made by our friend John D darkmatter35 ) who was just starting making leatherwork back in the days this was made, but you can see the quality and attention to detail that just got better over the years. On to the pictures!

Edited to add - I remember that when darkmatter had this knife to make the sheath, he reported to me that a mouse had gotten into his workshop and chewed on the handle - you can see the right side of the blade-end of the scale has a bit of a bevel to it, which was provided by mr. mouse. I thought that was funny, and darkmatter (John) was very upset at first, but I told him it was just funny and gave the knife even more character.
