short shortsword

Here's a knife I designed and had made for me by Ben Potter, "Gravind" (Grey Wind)

It's single edged, 1095, with a diamond cross section and a peened-over tang. It's got a 15" blade

Nice! How does it handle?

Oh yeah...smatchet!

Well, hard to say. It was expensive, so I haven't done any actual choping with it. It is wonderfully balanced. You can't believe it's as heavy as it is, even though it isn't that heavy anyway. The point of balance is just behind the guard, as is suitable for a stabbing blade. The blade is tempered to perfection, like a spring. The wood is first-class as is fit and finish. I made a scabbard for it myself.

I consider it a work of art. It's one of the things I would grab if my house was on fire. If time were limited, it might by the ONLY thing.

I love that this thread is still going, 6 years later. I wonder what ever happened to Ultra... Probably got eaten by a zombie because he didn't have a smatchet.

Probably eaten by a zombit that DID have a smatchet...

Hi guys, I'm in deadlock with a buddy of mine regarding the the extent of the Smatchet's influence on 1950's & 1960's ultra-sonic Cold War aviation.

Can somebody here please independently confirm that the SR-71 Blackbird was developed SOLELY to mimic the shape and awesomeness of an AF Smatchet travelling 80,000 feet above sea-level at Mach 3.5? (There must be a Smatchbird pilot our there somewhere???)

Too many months have gone by since this thread made an appearance- must be hundreds of new members who need to know the joy of this thread!

I read EVERY SINGLE post.. Hilarious. You guys are awesome. Somewhere, outside of a mall that was returned to Human occupation after the great Chinese Zombies War of 2010, there's a simple grave surrounded by parking stones. Upon the stone, next to tastefully etched Ninja symbols of dubious origin, is the following Epitaph : "ULTRA- He should have bought the Damn Smatchet." . RIP, Mall Ninja, RIP.:sorrow:

I want a smatchet now. I'm not joking. Where can I find one that is functional add a weapon?

There have been a lot of good suggestions, but I'm fairly certain that there are better options

Are you aware of the Applegate Fairborn Smatchet?
