Update

Went to the doctor yesterday, he cannot do anything for the hernia. I have to see a specialist and I can’t see him until June 14th.

It seems to me that some medical facilities are still in "covid mode" My niece's son got sick two weekends ago. They took him to Medical Express on Saturday. They were told to monitor his fever and be sure he stayed hydrated. Sunday morning the boy started feeling worse so they took him to the ER. They were told that his appendix needed to be removed but it should be done at another hospital. They drove him straight away to a larger hospital and the diagnosis was confirmed. The boy was put in a room and the emergency surgery was performed........24 hours later.

ER's are amazingly understaffed due to many people leaving the medical industry from COVID. It's not really "COVID mode" anymore, it's the consequence of our responses to COVID. Nurses are in really short supply and some places they're being offered higher wages than MD's.

It's likely this will remain a problem a problem for quite a while. There's also likely going to be a shortage of doctors as many are baby boomers who will age out of the work force in the next decade and many are taking early retirements, just like the nurses.

Turns out, dealing with "the system" and people sucks. And many younger generations are not willing to work horrid hospital hours, creating a further shortage, or at least trouble backfilling. The late night ER is nearly worthless around me, they make you wait until dayshift arrives unless you're literaly at risk of dying.

Leaving the medical industry is a nice way of saying Forced Out......
Life is full of consequences. We made our bed, now we get to enjoy it.

Just yesterday, I was talking with a co-worker. He was going for a regulars check up. It took over 2 Months for him to get in to see the doctor. WTF.
Not the America I was raised in....... Everything about this Now is wrong!

That must be fairly widespread. Last time I took my father to the ER they ran a few basic tests and told me they wanted to keep him overnight for observation. A nurse came by to talk with me before I left. She told me they need a Dr to sign off on one of the test and didn't have one available till daylight. Sure enough I received a call the next morning saying they were releasing my father.

From my perspective that shortage is not going to be limited to the medical field. I'm an electrician, working in industrial maintenance for over 20 years. The company I work for was looking to hire 4 electricians(replacing 7 that had retired or changed jobs over the past couple years). The job isn't great in many ways but the pay is better than most others locally. The application and interview process went on for several months. They finally hired 3 new men, not 4 because there were not 4 qualified applicants.

What about it is "Wrong" about it? Supply and demand, there's a huge demand for medical services and a reduced supply of providers and care givers.

Agreed, it seems to be across many industries as there just seems to be a limit on talent. Talked with my financial advisor last year and one thing that kept coming up regarding speculations of a recession is that unemployment was still really low and many places were still trying to hire people. There's still many "we're hiring" signs around me.

We've been looking for another sales engineer person, albeit one that speaks Chinese, for nearly a year now and have only had 4 people to even interview, all fresh college grads or near graduation. Only two knew anything about basic chemistry, and it's a chemical industry role. I'm all about training people, but if you don't know the very basic, high school stuff it would be near impossible just to have a technical conversation. The latter became a big challenge with translators, not know the words in English to help train me on our stuff when I was hired.

For some back story, the company I now work for is Japanese and our biggest current customer is Chinese, and I'm the only American in the branch. A few of the people I work with have been in the US for a long time but Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship so they would need to relinquish their Japanese citizenship to be an American citizen too. They've been using green cards for like 30 years.

It's too forgiving saying it is Just a supply & demand issue! Sure we can say that...... but then we must ask WHY?
what type of government is it when it is controlling the means of production? and I Do mean control.

I will always remember the day at work. On a Monday, we were in our weekly dept meeting. People were talking about how Chicago was closing down all the restaurants and bars, salons etc....
That just blew my mind.
I got extremely upset. Others couldn't understand Why?

I just don't believe in Big government. Never have.
Then, weeks later the rest of the country followed suit. Some areas worse than others.
I lived and worked in Both kinds of areas. Everything has been Very interesting to say the least.
