What did you rehang today?

Most of the time I see a weight on the poll I think hardened - what is your take on it in person JB? Deferentially hardened so a little mashing on the edges but solid down the middle maybe?

Firestone axes sometimes have a Chevron deal stamped in front of the eye right there - axe trivia.
Yours looks like the "Punisher" product line to me ;)

*or that could be from some sort of hanging/retention system?

Looks like a full size axe stuck on a boys axe handle. It throws off the perspective.

I knew it's hung on a boy's axe haft, but that still seems like a fairly long Michigan head to me.
Either way I think he should put that head on a more properly fit haft and make better use of this one.
It would sure look nice turned into a 22" haft for a riggers axe head;);)

Still a work in progress, but here's where I'm hat right now with my SFA killer.

It's not going to be perfect, but I did what I could with the club of a 28" link handle I found at another hardware store in my county. It ended up being 20.5" long, which isn't bad considering I wanted 20" and would've settled for 22".
I really wish I could've gotten a 20" handle, but my whole plan with this project is as cheap as possible and my grand total is almost exactly 20$.

Shoddy photos but my latest hang nonetheless.

Here's the sfa killer finished.

( try doing that with a small forest axe )

All I had to chop on was a big tree root that I had removed a while back, and MAN does this thing bite. It swings extremely well and I think the balance of the head probably has something to to with that.
I'm not sure if I'm the only person who has ever thought of this, but I am surprised that it's not a common thing to do.

i love these things, i had one a few years ago. i used the hell out of it. i had an old brush axe that i assume is a council tool by the shape. the eye had rotted out of the original handle so i cut it off and i made one of those guys.

the handle snapped due to some serious run-out and a few cracks.

I think it looks real good myself.

I think it came out really well and you sure did your research. I have the hunters axe. The cheeks are almost identical and the weight is very close. The GB's have bigger eyes and better wood connection there but they don't have a hardened hammer poll, that can really be nice depending on what a guy is doing.

Thanks guys.
I had the idea a few years ago, but just never found a riggers axe head anywhere.
I'm not trying to knock the small forest axe or anything, but I really don't see why they're practically revered like they're magic.
If someone has no problem spending 120$ on the sfa they should have no problem spending under 50$ on eBay for an old riggers head and a west woods 20" handle ( I'm petty sure they're about 29$ shipped ) to get basically an American small forest axe.
