Working on a Friction Folder - With Bolsters

I love the unfinished fat blade.. at least it looks fat.. and I assume this is a Ti blade or???? Are you going to do the friction folders in something else soon? I personally would love to see a friction folder in any of the high edge retention steels... something sexy like s90v or ... :)

oh and thanks for the pictures.. enjoy knife wips and porn.

I hear you, the thick blade looks killer! It is a favorite stage of folder making... seeing the original stock at full thickness. It's .160" 6al4v Titanium.

I have plans for a .093"-.125" version in a stainless steel later this year.

Thanks too... I'll have more pics soon! Today I was on a roll with Wharncliffe style Friction Folders.

Have you considered doing an integral bolster?
That sounds killer! I'm thinking I need a bigger mill but really like the idea.

Well, if you're having a hard time finding the explosives, I have a couple pounds I can send you. Seriously. :D You pick up from the PO at your own risk....

Ummm... let me send you that address. :D

Liam I was just thinking of suggesting that myself! Looks great Daniel! Best Jim

Thanks Jim!

Nice! :D

looks good to me.

Thanks Gooeytek!

Daniel- Bolsters were never my bag but you do them very well.
rolf

Thanks Rolf! Everything has to be strong, simple and purpose built, the bolsters add weight and strength in the right places...much appreciated!

Very clean and sexy!

Thanks BLK! :)

Handsome knife. It looks classy but tough. Can't wait to see the evolution of it.

Thanks rev, that' the goal! much appreciated!

Wow. If that's a first effort, this is going to be great!

That is great to hear after working n it, I am motivated!

Oh, if you're doing bolsters, go thin with the liners, .060 or even .040 should be plenty. The scale and bolster will give it strength. On my slipjoints, the liners flex like crazy until I pin the scales on.

Good advice! I'm going thick with .100/.100 but I can see even half that doing the trick nicely.

Thanks everyone! You guys keep me motivated as can be 24/7! :D

Something else that can be pretty sweet, dovetail the scale under the bolster slightly (instead of a 90deg join, cut in at a slight angle so the scale is held down by the bolster's overhang. If that makes sense. Cleans up that join, and adds mechanical strength/prevents warping if moisture gets under there - depending on your scale material.

edit - like this, but without the pinstriping.
