2024 GEC 93 Ramfoot

After 100 Days of internment..... my GEC 93 was finally released not by Customs, they were fine with it, but POSTI the Finnish P.O. was claiming they needed safety documentation for the EU before delivering it...:poop: Arrived 24 Feb Helsinki delivered to me 420kms away 3 June

Collected this afternoon and really delighted with the knife just regret the vexation and worry plus the same for a Forum friend who sent it to me.

Better pictures later but for now, relief :D

Congrats Will !

It's insane Dan! Yet I've had 5 other packets since Feb from non EU countries and all has gone OK like it was with you.

I think it's some hierarchy crap in the P.O management which was privatised some years ago and is nowhere near as efficient or reliable as before. The excuse is an EU edict demanding security codes, but that started in 2021 and the problem has only existed this year, there are 3000 packets undelivered and building up. My parcel was 100% correctly addressed, tracked, customs declaration, contents, sender, country code. Somebody didn't know how to make a decision I suspect and thus it all got paralysed, "not my job, no comment, not my responsibility, am I high up enough to do this? " It's impossible to contact anybody in authority in the P.O. and nobody knows who they are....

I hope this is not the shape of things to come....

The 93 is a brilliant frame in my view and houses the Lamb Foot and Sheepfoot really well, nicely balanced and with correct proportions . Finish on this one is very good with the Micarta being richly polished to great effect. Great W&T out of the tube before oiling, no play no gaps. However, there is some gapping around the shield, but I hear GEC has a new inletting cutter so maybe they haven't quite mastered it yet? Not a big annoyance though and the Orléans shield is quite demanding due to its shape. Will be using this one for sure.

Amen! 🤞

I almost didn’t pick the Ramsfoot up Will! I’d got a Lamb in the 93 and thought I’d found everything I needed from the pattern…but.. a tempting email caught me off guard and I was able to acquire a Satin Snakewood as an early birthday present and wow if I’d not just found one of my top 5 knives in my collection. My particular example is off-centre some what but action is incredible, by far my sweetest walking/talking GEC.
Glad yours FINALLY got to you, Red Tape can be one of the most infuriating things at times!!

Ps. I am envious of your Cocobolo’19…

H Honest_Thomas It's a rewarding pattern and the Lamb Foot and Sheepfoot (Ram Foot) are surprisingly different despite sharing the same frame. The LF is a long swooping type and I think by far the best factory rendering of the pattern, closest to catalogue examples from the early c20th - satisfying blade:handle ratio. Whereas later types from Wright et al. favour what I consider to be a disappointingly short blade whatever the handle size, my preference obviously, but aesthetics matter. With the Sheepfoot alternative you get a decent knife with 'chopper' type blade that slices everything and yet is not a scaffold bolt in your pocket :D It's similar in some ways to certain French knives that do this type of blade really well. Very taken with the highly polished Micarta on this new one, shine on!

As for the Coco one, totally good F&F the Longpull & swedge are a nice addition, the wood is darkening despite being kept in the dark, most Coco gets near Ebony it seems. Now if you bought a membership.... we could communicate via message about it and other GEC items I have that might be of interest :)

Thanks, Will

Will!! Membership is reasonable but the rest sounds expensive 🤣🤣🤣

Yes I’ve noticed the differences between LF and RF(sheepfoot) , it’s a completely different tang by the looks of it? The kicks are obviously different but also the angle or pitch of the blade edge in relation to where it leaves the bolster. Both fantastic knives, the Lamb in a league of its own for the reasons you give but the “standard” 93 is a far better user than I’d have imagined and anyone on the fence as I was should not hesitate to give one a go!!

Indeed, the 93 RF is a really great user and if people get the chance for one they should go for it- remarkable balance too
