I've settled on a Benchmade 940. Now, if you'll help me decide which model. Feel free to vote and comment. Options are...

1. 940 (the OG model with green aluminum scales).
2. 940-1702 (REI exclusive with green G- 10 scales).
3. 940-1 (CF scales & s90v)

I highly recommend the 940-1. I have owned the original 940 for probably a decade, recently had doat do a custom set of carbon fiber scales for it, like it much better than the aluminum. Just picked up a 940-1 a few weeks ago for the heck of it, cant go wrong with carbon fiber scales and s90v steel

I've said it before: s90v is my favorite steel offering from Benchmade. I'd take the 940-1 just for that.

If you're diggin' the green scales you can probably trade for them. I'd imagine there's at least one person on the forums who would trade their green REI scales for the CF ones.

Since it's your money I'm spending, I'd definitely go with the 940-1. It's the best overall package imo, but has always seemed about $50 to $75 overpriced for what it is.

My second choice (and first choice from your listed options) would be the 940-1. My top pick would be a 940-2 (a bit cheaper than the REI exclusive). I've owned a 940, 940-1, and 940-2. My fav of the 3 is the G10 model. I'm OK with CF and I do like S90V, I just like the ingredients and the pricing of the G10 version better. I'm with Sonny in not liking metal handles of any sort, so I re-homed my green 940 a long time ago. I still have my -1 and -2 models. The -2 gets most of the carry and use, but my -1 is definitely a keeper. I really like the 940 platform that Osborne designed, esp since the -1 and -2 versions arrived.

The 940-1 is my pick.
I bought up a 940 years ago, and in my experience it has been a great knife. A few years ago I upgraded to a 940-1, and it was a huge mistake.:( I discovered that I love carbon fiber and super steels, and my poor wallet hasn't been the same since.

Out of those I'd vote 940-1702 for the feel of the G10 handle, but my real favorite version is actually the 940-1701 (G10/C-Tek & 20CV):

This thread needs pictures. I once thought about buying a 940 variant and the 940-1 was my first choice. The aluminum handles, somehow, scream cheapo... (even though they are NOT cheap at all).

The 1702 for me, the G10 seems to work better for this knife and I love the green. I heard that Benchmade is not doing exclusives any more, so if you like the green g10 with stand offs this is the one to get.

940-1. I had the original aluminum also, which felt solid in hand, but the scales would get very cold to the touch in winter. I’m sure G10 would be fine also. 940-2 is probably the best value.
I use the -1 as my dress knife. It’s a looker.

Not doing exclusives anymore? Could you disclose where you heard that? If not, I understand. That would be unfortunate news.

Different strokes for different folks, I had a 940-1 and much prefer the G10 variants like the 940-1701 I posted above.
True, but the knife you posted wasn't an option. S90V is great. Of the 3 knives narrowed down by the OP I would still choose the 940-1.

If he doesn't like the CF he could always swap it for aftermarket scales.

Benchmade seems to do a good job with their S90V, and the 940-1 is the best looking of the lot IMO. I ended up buying a -1 instead of the other offerings.
