Photos A Walk in Nature

Packing up for our long awaited Georgian Bay adventure !
The area we will be exploring is about a 7 hours drive from home.
I put new tires on Serena's trailer ( after suffering a blown out tire on our last rip ) and had the bearings changed and packed with new grease. I am also bringing my grease gun with me and tool kit :)

Just finish preparing the pizza mix lol :)
Boat knife is thrilled to be coming along !

Wow! What an adventure!
Georgian Bay is beautiful…and huge!
We have lifelong friends who have two islands there. (Isle of U and Isle of U 2)

I’m also wearing a sympathetic smile.
Last Aug., 4 new tires for inspection. This yr. bearings, brake pads and a new tongue jack.
Now, the electronics on the truck dash informs me the trailer “light module” (whatever that is) is the cause for the driver’s side taillight out.
I call this, “Yard Yachting”

Enjoy your sail!!!

Thank you 😊
My sympathies back you as well 😊

Big new water to explore. Good for you. Have a great great trip. AND, don’t worry Tom our Dan will be posting updates every day - that’s his way. 😁
It will be like we are there (kind of) 🥰

Lol guys 👍😎

Yesterday while we were driving Diana took the wheel at one point and told me:

“Get all your knife posting done now cause when we get there you are all mine “ 😂

A rainy start to our adventure however we are enjoying it very much indeed 👍

We are enjoying nature and each others company and taking time to reflect on our experiences of the past couple of years rather than being on “adventure mode “

This morning we went on a short hike to a place we had visited with our daughters 3 years ago.

In the afternoon we explored the area. It drizzle on and off.
We did not go out in the open as it was way too windy however we got to explore beautiful coves and little bays.
Gunkholing paradise 👍😊

As we navigated out of an inlet a bear kept a close eye on Serena and us 🐻
Can you see it?

Cell signal is very spotty.
Tomorrow we are heading out into the boonies lol 😊 and most likely we’ll have no reception for a couple days
Forced weaning of electronics 😁

I found a few hours to get back out on the Potomac this morning, sans bateau. It was so humid, it was hard to tell where the water ended and the air began…

I hopped from rock to rock, teetered across fallen tree trunks, and followed the deer trails on an island to get pretty far out. I got a big bite but it snapped the line immediately. It was right after I had freed the line from a snag, so I must have weakened something. Not so much as a nibble after that :(

You’ll get it next time Tom 🎣 !

Cool shots of the wildlife you encountered!

We saw a bald eagle 🦅 from a distance and I got very excited, turned Serena around but couldn’t get close enough for a clearer pic.

The weather around here was the opposite last weekend. Unseasonably cool, rather cold I’d say and rainy.

Fortunately the last couple days have been very nice and we were able to do a lot of exploring around some islands among the thousand of them in Georgian Bay.

We did not have much cell signal the past couple days and at times the withdrawal was real 😊.

Tonight we have enough that I am able to share these pics below and ease the withdrawal symptoms 😄

Tomorrow we head back out into signal free territory 😎

We arrived home yesterday afternoon from our 11 day trip aboard Serena on Georgian Bay.

On one day when the weather was rather unstable with high winds we went back to the marina, left Serena there and went on a nice hike on the French River to visit the Recollet Falls. It is said that on this site a few missionary fathers drowned long ago.

The French River is rich in history and was key for the transportation of goods, the fur trade and connecting the great lakes with the Ottawa River.
Big companies like the Hudson Bay Company and the Northwest company competed fiercely in this area for control of the fur trade.

More memories of our recent trip to Georgian Bay.
An unforgettable adventure exploring, sailing and doing some rather extreme gunk holing aboard our little Serena.

We brought home a treasure trove of wonderful lived experiences close to nature in such a beautiful part of the world.

This is the legendary "Roy" who is the king of one of the bays for many years now.
A boater told me that he once saw him ambush a goose and grab onto his neck, drowned him and eat him

Roy hanged around Serena for a couple of hours.
I thinks he wants my toe for supper

I took a short 5-1/2 mile walk/jog along the canal yesterday, to investigate river conditions for a boat trip I was hoping to make. I may not get a chance to do it, due to a whole series of crises I have been dealing with, but I wanted to check it out just in case.

The river is very low, and the campground is along a small channel behind an island, but the Green Heron draws very little water, so I think I could make it. I might have to hop out in a few places and drag it over some gravelly spots.

Here is a stick I carved from a freshly-fallen maple I found several weeks ago:
