Alone Season 2

Anybody else cringe when folks used their axe carelessly this episode? Both Mike and Larry had some lapse in safety. Mike had his hand just like MK while splitting wood in camp (NICE CAMP!) and Larry with that longer handle axe while making his spear could have potentially hit himself the way he was working.

Really bummed about Tracy quitting. Her shelter looked grade A.

I'll be surprised if there's not another edged weapon injury before its all over, I've seen a few shots of unsafe techniques and as the hunger sets in the mental clarity and caution seems to be lessening.

I still don't understand Tracy taping out. I think she was scared and is just putting on the tough story to cover the real reason. I usually try not to pass judgment on these shows but it just seemed strange

Tracy also surprise me, she said she came there for peace and getting upset with the Bears, which brought out the violent side of her. Well survival has always been and will continue to be violent at times, that story she told about not getting to a shooting in time to save someone's life and thinking that it was your fault, how about the person who caused the victims death. I think last year's winner Allan talked many times about dealing with yourself and baggage we all carry is the biggest impediment to successfully surviving alone. She seemed to have all the survival basics covered, I give her credit along with all remaining contestants. Too many commercials, going have to DVR the remaining episodes though.

Tracy was both military and LEO. She told that story of arriving to a shooting and blaming herself for being too late. Perhaps the adrenaline rush and fight or flight syndrome that kicked in during the bear incident (she handled it well and got through it) may have triggered some PTSD she is dealing with. Just a guess but maybe she expected peace and harmony which she was experiencing right up to that moment. I wish her well.

Mike should be concentrating his efforts on food and wood gathering not making drying racks, BBQ, hand washing gizmo. Cheesh. I don't see any one staying too long. Maybe Jose
Didn't Mike catch like three fish soon after he set up his gill net? Looks like he set it up in a good spot. And from what I saw looking around his shelter it seemed like he had a decent supply of firewood going. I'd say he's doing alright, no?

If he did catch fish I take it back:) They jump around with the filming I might have lost track. Drying kindling is ok but for long term he's going to need a few cord. But I don't think anyone is staying long term

That makes sense. Thanks

I think Mike will make it far if he can deal with being away from his wife. Jose also is doing great, he has some great skills. My top three picks for winning are Mike, pict, Jose. Larry is my dark horse.

Sad to see Tracy tap, but I'm glad it in health, rather than injury. By the end of the show Mike will have a guide cabin, if he gets clients, will that disqualify him as a contestant? Once he leaves, he should post it up on AirBnB! I agree, he will have trouble in the heavy weather, I'm interested to see how he changes his shelter as the weather closes in.
As far as Nicole and the bears, My thought was that if she had fish in her net, and walks away, the bear will get them, and she would loose the net. Hard to tell range since I think she was zooming a bit, without seeing the whole situation, its hard to say what she should have done. If the bears were as far away as I think they were, I'd have gone for the net, since those bears had already seen her once. Just making lots of noise, and ready to defend. Or lit a fire on my bank, and just wait it out a bit.

Too bad about tracy tapping out, did you all notice the calves and legs on tracy. Hmm! makes me wonder.

Wonder what? I watched the last episode and saw that somebody had tapped out.... couldn't figure out who until I read it here. The 2-3 minutes of ads are killing me and my brain tunes out and I miss stuff. What do they think? This is the Superbowl?

I missed the tap out too. And I agree on the ads. But they do have to pay production costs and still make a profit so there is that. I still wish they could extend the series postseason with additional episodes featuring one contestant at a time, showing more of camps, skills etc.

I think an extended show or two would be a great idea and in keeping with the Gold Rush series that I love. Moving dirt is just really appealing to me and toss in some gold... great stuff. Once things settle down to a few participants, I think an extended show would be a great thing where they are interviewed and discuss choices, reasons for making choices, their camps and the design, fire making and so forth.

I note that if the gill net is ruined by a bear at some point, they will likely starve and have to tap out. Makes me think a spare gill net might well be a good choice.

David showed us last episode that making a gill net from found materials is quite doable. And I have mentioned fish traps before but not seen anyone actually go that route. Like weaving the nets, making the trap baskets can be labor intensive. But the resulting catch can be worth it if properly sited.

This Season we have so many comments. I love reading them! seeing the contestants and using their skills is just awesome. I only wish we could see more just like everyone else. one thing that just bugs me.... the shelters. the Storms From season 1 were brutal, windy and wet. how come Mike has an open lean to style tent? seeing Lucas in the Yurt last season was mind blowing! why has no tried this??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVMQ1y42F_E

We saw previews of a storm moving in. It will be interesting to see which shelters survive and which are blown away. And how each copes with the destruction. Hopefully there will be no injuries from flying debris.

The tease for this week's episode shows some very strong winds and a big tidal surge so anyone too close to the water will have issues. Larry was wise to move away from the creek. Those 2 downed trees making up his shelter look solid. Should be interesting.

I don't see how Mike is prepared for the wind and extended rain periods experienced in season 1. His bed and entire setup looks very vulnerable to wind and rain.. Why is he not buttoning things up tight in preparation? Am I missing something? Where will he sleep in wind driven rain conditions?

From the looks of it, it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to modify his shelter to better accommodate wind and rain. And I think he's smart enough to do that. I think he'll be alright.
