I met a married women who had an ankle braclet on her right ankle and she said it was for people in the "know" to signal thats she was able to "play" Ive never heard of this before, am i behind the times; could there be such a signal???

Just run down to the local super market, find someone with a braclet on her right ankle, wink seductivly, and lay your best pick up line on her. Then report back.

....when you get out of intensive care. :p

Interesting concept. . . I guess.

One subject that I'm glad that I'm not in the know on. :D

FWIW a male friend of mine from Indonesia once told me that ankle bracelet means that the woman likes sex. YMMV :D

I've read about this in... I think it was one of Cecil Adams' "Straight Dope" books. There are various subcultures out there, be they gay, bi, swinging, or whatnot that have evolved surreptitious signalling methods. Could very well be that the lady in question is involved with some sort of swinger's club that does such a thing.

AH HAH! Through the miracle of the "internet" I have found the Straight Dope in question. Note that this was answered originally in 1982, so the information might be slightly dated. http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a1_065.html

Holy Cow!
It's like learning semaphore with the lesbian hankies/scarves

I knew that when women wear thumb rings it means they are Bi..but the ankle thing is new to me..

DAAAANNG! I see a lot of both jewelry items here in sunny Florida, and frankly, considering the age, build, etc, of many of the women wearing them, I'm terrified that this could be true :barf:

Oh, the things you wish you'd never read on the net...

Remember that all of these "codes" vary wildly by region, that there's sometimes disagreement in the same group, and that enormous numbers of "vanilla" people wear the same things just because they like the way they look.

In the BDSM community, wearing keys or hankies indicates whether you're dominant or submissive, depending on which side you wear 'em on. But the relevant sides are one way on the East coast, and reversed on the West.

I was in New Hope, PA one day, and overheard a young woman "subtly" pointing out jewelry she liked to her husband. She _really_ liked the cute litte rainbows. They reminded her of Care Bears. It really made my day to watch her husband try to gently steer her away, then awkwardly explain why the rainbows prolly weren't for her. :D

Remember the early eighties with the earing thing. Straight guys could were one earing on one side, but not the other. And it was different wherever you were. These signals rapidly get absorbed into popular culture and loose whatever meaning they had.

Here's my question: what signal does it send if I wear an 8" bowie in a black leather sheath on my right hip?

How about a 9mm H&K P7 in a brown leather holster under my left shoulder?

I just want to make sure that I'm sending the right signals to these people.

Well I heard that if you are driving down a lonely road and a car approaches you with its high beams on,DO NOT flash your high beams.
It is a carload of housewives in ankle bracelets, and they will chase you down and catch you and play with you.

What a dumbass! She TOLD you it was a signal? How much MORE of a hint do you need? Forget your Viagra?
Reminds me of the time when I was 17 and a buxom young family friend I was visiting suggested we should 'take a nap' before lunch. Somehow my hormones completely missed the obvious.... I imagine she was as disappointed then, as I was later, when it suddenly dawned on me what 'nap' meant in that situation. I am still amused by my innocence. Lucky me... :(

First, it signals that while you may not be manly enough to carry a .45, at least you are carrying the Cadillac of 9mms. The bowie signals that you have a sense of history about knife fighting.

Most importantly, it says, no, it screams, "I'm not interested in you or your sexual preferences. Keep your distance."

I'll be wearing my 1911 and a Randall Model 1 to dinner tonight, just so nobody gets their signals crossed.
