Was thinking of mounting one of my ESEE's on my AR-15, has anyone used the Bayonet Lug on their AR-15 to mount a ESEE Blade or mounted their knife on the AR in anyway? I have an adjustable MagPul Stock's on all my AR's.

Mounted like a bayonet or on the stock sort of like a stock magazine carrier? Also, I agree with Killstew.

I think this must be a joke. Other than a bayonet, there is no practical reason to mount a knife on a rifle. Hell, even bayonets rarely even leave the armory anymore. The last few bases I visited required soldiers to request and sign for bayonets if they wanted one in the field. Very rare that I even saw a soldier or Marine carry one with them.

No, not as a bayonet, to be carried as a spare blade in it's sheath. Just thought it would sever as alternate carry option to have the blade on the rifle.

I'm really trying wrap my brain around this. In your OP you talked about using the bayonet lug to mount the knife. Secondary the idea of mounting a knife in sheath on a rifle is just for lack of a better way of saying dumb. What if your weapon gets knocked from you hands? Then you also loose your secondary weapon. Or if you run out of ammo now you have to monkey around with removing the knife from a sheath on another weapon rather than pull the knife from a sheath on your person. This seems very clumsy to me. I'm really trying my hardest not to make fun of this but I find it difficult.

... is this just a bad idea???

Yes...yes, it is. For a myriad reasons.

But the biggest, IMO: Added weight with no practical purpose. Knives should be carried in packs or on LBE...not mounted on weapons. If it doesn't assist with targeting (sights/lights/lasers/grips), then it doesn't belong on a rifle.

For sure, good points! It's a really stupid idea! As far as the bayonet lug idea, I have seen mounts that use the lug for a rail, laser, flashlight mount, etc... Thanks for your input, you just saved me from doing something really stupid, and non practical.

I wanted to say something in the nicest way possible but the words escaped me. Good luck with your rifle configuring?

Another good point, I really don't need the added weight! I'll keep the blades on me, and on the packs! Thanks for your input!

A member on scrapyard forums recently made a killer bayonet mod with a Scrapyard regulator, and it is awesome!!!

I think it would be cool just to have one (not being military my self, I still have some guns that "need" bayonets just because they do).

The mod on the Scrapyard Regulator involved some serious metal work making the steel handle for the mortised tang design. For a full tang rat, you would have to do some serious modding on the handle.

Here is the thread with the mod. the handle is actually layers of steel riveted and bolted around the tang. Impressive thought and work went into it, and I would absolutely love one for one of my bayonet lug equipped rifles, just because there is one out there, and I think it is awesome.

I assumed you were talking about modding an ESSE so you could use it as a bayonet.

If you are actually asking if you should mount the sheath some where on your gun, as a means of carrying the knife on the gun (but not as a bayonet), then I agree with the naysayers. No reason to mount the knife to your gun, just add weight and something extra to snag on stuff.

if ESEE made a bayonet, i'd buy it. maybe a saber ground 6, with a sharpened swedge, practicality be damned!

If you want to mount one near your AR, why not mount it to a single point sling so that it will ride on your opposite shoulder.

Problem with making bayonets is we export a lot of knives overseas. Once you make a bayonet it's classed different and you have to make sure you have the right export license and stay within the law because it is legally "arms" once you put the bayonet lugs and mounts on the blade.
