Architect Knives.

Now I just need the 3v available again.

Has anyone tested both the 3v and Magnacut? I have both but only used the 3v version so far. I haven't done harsh enough testing to see which performs better

Both steels perform great. Both are fairly easy to sharpen, as long as you don't wait until they're totally dull. The Magnacut will have more corrosion resistance, if that's a concern. Other than that, I doubt 98% of people could tell the difference in real world use.

The guy who made magnacut has tested both, just check his site Knifesteelnerds. And pretty much what Hammer67 said, highly unlikely you would see a difference in either edge retention or toughness wise unless you are REALLY abusing it. In my experience 3v has no problems with rust, and thats coming from someone in the tropics near the coast.

Not all magnacut and 3v are the same. I assume Architect does a good job but real experience would be nice to hear.
I’ve used Architect’s Magnacut and their 3v and they’re similar in performance but the Magnacut stays noticeably sharper longer but is definitely harder to sharpen than the 3v. As for corrosion resistance I have no idea to be honest. This is in reference to the 5.5’s. I’ve owned all four steels in the 5.5 and no one ever talks about S35VN which is my personal favorite they’re easy to sharpen and stays sharp for a good long while.

Thanks, I appreciate that information. I never considered S35VN on a large blade but maybe I'll have to get something in that steel.

You’re welcome. I had never considered S35VN either until recently, on a whim I bought the AK8 in S35VN I had it in 1095 and I was shocked at the difference in the two. Even my wife was impressed with the performance of the S35, I had her slice some paper with the 1095 and you have to force it to start cutting as with the S35 it was effortless like a laser or something.

(EDIT)I sold my first run MC and I regret it lol it was 098 the new one I got last week is 115. There’s literally less than 150 in existence. I don’t know were I’m going with that lol just realized it. I was wrong there’s more than that I don’t know why I had that number in my head. It’s more like 250-300. I was just going to delete the post but I don’t want to be the source of false information lol my bad.

NKD I found one of the original Field Buddy 5.5. I had one of the newer ones they still sell and sold it when I got the Magnacut version and regretted it. It was an awesome knife it’s only short coming was being 1095. I found this one for a killer deal and I wanted the green scales with orange liners for another knife because they’ve been sold out for a long time. I noticed the grinds are different. The Field Buddy is higher almost a flat ground blade.

S35vn kinda reminds of of a carbon steel....... Takes good edge, sharpens easy a d strops nice too......Perfect for a big blade
