This is the best thread I have seen in ages. The pics here are excellent. Thanks guys :)

Some truly awesome stuff...

Thanks, I just hafted that up recently. I love it's geometry too, I must admit that I fondle it often late at night. I check the grain for the hundredth time, flip it over and check the alignment for the hundredth time, check the balance for the hundredth time. You know the routine.

I felled and limbed a small cedar yesterday. As I expected the balance doesn't lend itself to accuracy, and the flat blade sticks pretty easily. It's not a bad limbing axe. The bit is so far out in front of the handle that it gives a little more reach, compared to a regular boys axe. It's a pretty neat, unusual axe but I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy one at retail price.

I'm soon going to be swapping the handle for a hickory one that I'm gonna mod a bit

dramose1,
is that a single piece of hickory?, how strong are your bolts? I've got a little Western hunting hatchet that I broke the tang on. Now I'm thinking of doing a Jenny Wren(RMJ) type of handle, or like yours, from G-11. I just don't have a saw that can cut the 3/16" wide notch that I will need to insert the remaining tang.

Have you had a chance to use it, if so how hard?

Its a solid bottom portion of a replacement axe handle, I notched it out with a miter saw and a hand saw, it was a little more work than I intended but so far its holding up good, and the bolts are factory from cold steel that I held on with a little loctite and tightened it enough that it sunk into the wood a bit, I havent fully tested it but it seems pretty solid

The stain is pretty much completely dry, I have a dead peach tree in by yard so I plan on putting it through its paces today after work and seeing how she holds up

Dead fruit wood can be pretty hard to that will make a good test.

Yea that's very true, I did some chopping and the hickory help up to the test, but I forgot the pics, so today ill do some more chopping and take some photos

A(nother) maine pattern double bit and a western pattern. No maker's mark that I can find yet. Both 3 1/2 pounds.
