Axe, Tomahawk & Hatchet Photo Thread

There just seems to be a greater variety of axes available on the east coast than we have out here in the west. Another superb example!

Marsh & Sons, Oakland, ME axe on a handle I saved from another maine-style axe. Hang came out a little more closed than I'm used to but not worried about it. Not sure how much I'll use this one.

Aaah, that looks gorgeous in that pic. Post some more!

Here's one more with a before pic. The "after" pic was not the final hang.

Kelly World's Finest. Painted the logo area and then sanded it. Hung it on a 30" octagonal handle from House Handle. This one is heading to the PNW for a friend.

Lookin' good Coop :)
That gives me motivation to work on a couple of my cruisers.

After... Hunting season ;)

Have any of you folks heard from Frank lately ?

My neighbor's Emerson & Stevens double bit. He picked up at the dump in Lee, NH a few years ago. It's a pretty one. In great shape. Love the angles on these. Also, like using the wire wheel now.

Dag nabbit, you getting all the nice ones! That is a real good one, nice job on it.

I made a sheath for my little ATCO-0 hatchet last night. No fancy edge skiving and not quiet enough edge burnishing, but it will do. I did rub some sno-seal and #7 compound into the welt edge as a handy fine strop. This can now go in the truck!

Love the angles on these.

Me, too. I also like the square bit geometry and the diamond eye. Very cool axe.

You're so prolific at hanging. You must have hung at least 50 axes this year. You've shown us so many amazing pieces. Much appreciated.

Thanks. Kudos to all of you as well. Learned a bunch on here.

Gpig - wish this one was mine.

Yet another Kelly Flint Edge. I was able to remove the handle and reseat it lower on the shoulder. It's missing a bit of handle up top but hope it's a tight enough fit not to matter.

Dang, Coop, where are you finding all these Connecticuts?

Nice job Coop! I had that on my watch list but it slipped thru - to a good home I see. If you have multiples of those connecticuts let me know!

That is just beautiful!

As for what Square Peg wrote: "There just seems to be a greater variety of axes available on the east coast than we have out here in the west. Another superb example!"

I have to agree. I was raised in Northern California, but out here in New England there are not only more axes, but also more vises, anvils, and other cool old stuff. I guess it's just a matter of population density. 100 years ago there just weren't that many people out West. Whereas here you had lots of people, and mills of one kind or another on just about every river.
