Axe, Tomahawk & Hatchet Photo Thread

I have to agree. I was raised in Northern California, but out here in New England there are not only more axes, but also more vises, anvils, and other cool old stuff. I guess it's just a matter of population density. 100 years ago there just weren't that many people out West. Whereas here you had lots of people, and mills of one kind or another on just about every river.

All the toolmakers were here. You're in the seat of the industrial revolution now, my friend. :-)

Thanks all. Another look after a soak in linseed oil.

I love that.

Fixed this up for a friend. A 3.5# Hults Bruks axe. This one had a huge eye.

Game out good. A really nice dark patina on this. Another wire wheel candidate.

Looks real good. The old wire wheel brush does do its job no doubt. Little linseed on the head looks like?

Hey everyone, first post to blade forums but I though id share a little WIP with the SOG fast hawk I'm modding. Sorry for the poor pic quality the photos were taken with my phone.

Still needs a few things to finish it off, like fastening hardware... and gnarling of the handle.

This is the bottom of the handle, its hollowed out 5 inches in, just waiting for a smaller boring bar to free up so I can thin it out a little more then make the end cap for storage.

There is also some suspiciously shaped gifts under the tree, they somewhat resemble trail and frontier hawks!

Kind of a poor picture of it but it's hard to take good pictures in my basement at night. This is an unnamed Maine style axe - marked with a 3 1/4 on the face of the axe. I got the whole wedge in this one pretty much. Looking forward to finishing it. Blue spots on the bottom right picture are from the tape holding my wooden mallet togther. :D

Did a little clean up and sharpening of my GB maul this weekend. I put an additional rubber collar on this. It's worked well to keep the handle in good shape.
