Best size knife for EDC. Your opinion

I've been carrying this a lot lately. Very smooth and comfortable to hold, razor sharp, and the beautiful pearl is durable enough to hold up to a wash and dry laundry cycle. :o The carbon steel has easily performed every cutting task encountered.

Estimated length (there's no lanyard so I've misplaced it for the moment) is under 3" closed.

I found my sweet spot to be 3 and 1/4. I can do just about anything with a blade that size.

Old Spyderco Hunter C03 i used to own.... very old knife, my father got it on his 18th birthday. He turned 45 earlier this month. Was 15 when he gave it to me, lost it somewhere in the woods. Damn shame, would probably be worth something nowadays.
This is just about a perfect knife. Didn't like the lockback design but damn near perfect. What do you guys think?

EDIT: Don't mind the desk. It's beat to hell and looks like crap, i know. I used it for a few years. Cut it, burned it, etc. Got a new one now.

I'm a fan of lockbacks, and the Spyder hole is just about the easiest method of one-hand opening. But I'm not a fan of all-metal handles.
It probably would be a collector's item today, especially if it were unused and still in the original packaging.

I went through different phases, but for the past couple of years I've been carrying folders with blades in the 3.5 to 4 inch range. They do everything I need a pocket knife to do.

My EDC fixed blades have blades between 3,5 and 5 inches, most of them are 4".

I've got a weird life style that takes me from a university lab to a ranch in the mountains and then to running a wrestling tournament. I also move all over the country. So I tend to focus on knifes that will work well for a variety of tasks and with different outfits.

What are your guys favorite locking mechanisms for EDC folders?

Slipjoint (not locking) is good. Lockback is good. The axis lock from Benchmade is good.
I can make due with just about anything except a frame lock or liner lock.

I agree that the Spyderhole is easier than thumbstuds, thumbdiscs, and nail divots, but what do you think about flippers?
Of course all is beaten by the Emerson Wave.

And what do you have against Framelocks? I'm not a huge fan of linerlocks myself, unless they're thick and trustworthy. I would refuse to use them at all if not for owning the Cold Steel Scimitar and it never failing during the couple years of utter abuse i put it through. I mean... heavy, straight up, ABUSE.

Anything from 2.5" to 3.5". I find 3.25" to 3.5" ideal. However, due to a 3" blade length limit where I'm at most of the time I've become quite handy with 2.5" to 3". We adapt. I do like narrow and thin 3" folders for main pocket or wider 2.5" stubby ones for change pocket.

I go for around 3.5". My PM2 is the shortest blade that I EDC, a ZT 0561 is probably the biggest, but I'm going to try a Spyderco Military. I don't have a problem with this size knife and carry them no matter what I'm wearing- jeans, dockers, dress slacks. I carried a mini-griptilian for several years and finally decided that it did most light duty tasks I needed but was too small for some things. And it isn't so much the blade size as it is the handle size. Once I pick a knife with a handle size that is good for me to hold onto, the blade ends up being at least 3.5".

My favorite edc blade length is 3.25 to 3.5 inches. A well made 3 inch blade like the sage also make a good carry. I used to carry a military several years ago , but now it seems too big for minor everyday tasks. Great size as a work knife.

I like knives 2"-4" range. mostly I carry Delica4 which is about 3", and I find them works really great for EDC. As for food prepping, I like 4", as I have Endura, Griptilian, Moran or Spyderco Mule for those tasks.

I don't like thick blades on folders/EDCs so the most perfect EDC knife for me is Delica4/ Endura4 .

BTW, if you liked the Spyderco Hunter you might want to look for Spyderco Stretch. if you like thick linerlock try the Spyderco Gayle Bradley.

I don't like flippers, but i am a fan of the Kershaw Leek. I don't like emerson wave opener that much too. I much prefer Spyderholes now.

Carrying a large modern and a small to medium sized traditional gives the best of both worlds.

As with many others, around 3-3.25" is great for me. Never bigger than 3.5", I have no purpose for a knife that large.

Im partial to smaller blades. I usually stay around the 3 in. mark. The BM mini grip, Buck Vantage Small, and Case Sodbuster Jr. are among my favorites for edc.

I highly prefer knives with flippers so i'm not too much of a Spyderco fan. I want to own a C03 again. My father carried his for 25 years before he quit carrying a knife. I had it for a month before i lost it in the woods. If it had a pocket clip i never would have but that still sucks. I'd like one for sentimental purposes, basically.
