Best size knife for EDC. Your opinion

The right tool for the job I say. My EDC consists of 3-4 tools in varying sizes (smallest being 1 1/4" and largest 5.5") however my "main" go-to blade for everything is 4 inches.

I would agree with this. The best size for EDC is the one that fits your uses.

Measure the distance from the tip of your index finger on your dominant hand to the very center of the associated knuckle.
Now measure the distance from the tip of your favorite folder's blade to the very center of the pivot.

Coincidence?

This is your personal optimum EDC blade length.
You may go shorter or longer but you will always return to this length.
It's in your DNA.

I thought that the length of your ideal EDC is inversely proportional to the length of your junk...:foot: :D

Uh? You've got to be kidding.

If I place the center of the pivot of my favorite pocket folders at the tip of the index finger of my dominant hand, the tip of the blades fall well short of the associated knuckle. I've always preferred shorter pocket knives. If I ever put different size in my pocket, I always return to the shorter knives in very short order.

That is so absurd I can only assume you are pulling our legs. :D

I've found if there are no restrictions in place that all my favorites fall very close to a 4.5" handle and 3.5" blade, anything much larger just doesn't fit ergonomically and anything smaller feels wrong as well. The problem with so many smaller blade knives is they reduce the handle too much, I'd much rather see some knives with 2.75-3" blades for those with blade restrictions but with a full 4.5" handles.

I like a 3.5 to 4.5 inch blade for EDC; it's important to me that my knife has a full size handle that I can least get a 4 finger grip on, and I also like a longer blade for cutting food and things like that. Plus, I think a big 'ol knife is just plain cool.

I do EDC multiple knives in different sizes, however; 2" is the smallest blade.

I guess each person has their own need, but for me as a chef and suburban living I don't even need one as there are dozens of knives around and suburban living doesn't exactly require blade tools, but anything small will do for mundane tasks like mail and box.

Anything less than 3" blade and small scales will make it easy to pocket in jeans or slacks.

I wish I had needs like some of you haha, but boxes are my biggest use for folding knives.

My ECDs are what I take to work, out to dinner, you know every day stuff. 3-4"
For the weekends, farm work, hunting and hiking at least 4" blades.

For me, a slipjoint between 3" and 4" in closed length, with my preference for the 3 1/2" to 3 3/4" range.

In my locality @ 2.5". Here, any knife with a blade over 3" is considered a dangerous weapon when carried.

Yeah, I figure it'd be food related. Anything else? Gut a deer?

There are hunting and skinning knives for that. Why use your EDC? Do you hunt deer in the course of a day? If you don't hunt deer everyday, why EVERYDAY carry a hunting knife? :D
