Steve our ranching partner brought over some deviled eggs with jalapeño and his legendary potato salad with more of the same. The other side was a fancy mac and cheese that my daughter did.

Man that all looks excellent. And tri tip is so underrated, at least around here.

I grew up in Santa Maria for most of my teenage years. At the time Santa Maria and the surrounding area was the only place you could get Tri Tip, it was always called Santa Maria Tri Tip. Now a days its lots more common other areas. But I was watching a Bearded Butcher’s video not too long back and they were talking about how it was relatively new to them too. They use to grind it up for burgers. Ya want to try how it was, getcha some of that Suzie’s Q rub in the first picture. Its the closest to what I remember as a kid. Cause there is lots of tri tip out there that ain’t very tri tippy! Suzie’s Q is done right and is an old family recipe from one of the original ranching families of that area.

Thanks, I’ll definitely give it a try. Always looking for a good rub.

I had never heard of it till a few years ago seeing it at Costco. Finally gave it a try and loved it. Found it to be really good cooked like a steak or even as a roast in gravy. Very versatile. And Costco always has beautiful cuts full of marbling.

Ya can get Suzie’s Q on line but we do get it often at Costco. That one in the pic is their no MSG version which we get on line.
