Boycott CBS news

What a load of $hit! I contacted them alright, I hope they get a slew of emails on how retarded this "investigation" is. Oh yeah, I'm gonna run out and buy a custom made $1500 sword to use in a drive by swording :grumpy: Just another reason to hate the media.

yeaha I wrote to them my 2 cents
here it what I had to say I pluged them to air it too :grumpy:

conerning your story

Weapons For Sale
A CBS 2 Investigation

This is my own opinion..but I'm sure many will concur

I think an equal story on the other side would be appropriate wouldn't you?
You seem to have gotten one
side of a story,

If we're to worry about knives being sold to do harm

I would go to the mass manufactures where knives and swords can be bought for pennies compared to the art form pieces we make,

if you are going to hurt someone with a knife you are
not going out and buy an $800.00 piece to do it.
a 2X4 or a fire place poker is a lot cheaper and easier to get,
anyone can buy them,
how about kitchen butcher knives, what I do and thousands of others do is make tools of yesteryear works of art and bettering what we do. and that's just the short of it..NOW
A Car is considered a deadly weapon by the police and the State at least it is here
and the
States put 16 year old kids in them and premit them to drive these weapons

and then again they run the liquor store sales also ?? which many of these same kids end up with.

tell me that all the house holds out there put locks on their kitchen draws to keep their kids out of them(knives), they should you know,,these pepole
are no worse nor better than a man making a living making knives,
at least he will teach his kids how to handel them safly
with respect to them and others.
like I said I would not buy even a $75.00 let alone a $200.00 knife or a $1000.00 knife or sword
to hurt anyone with ,,why
would you if you had the will to do harm? you can walk into sears and buy many of them for that same $75.00 give me a brake please and not print just half of what's said and twist the other..

that guy changed his story I believe not because he is making knives I think it was to save his part time job..from the likes of the uninformed.
in our news papers all over the US the Franklin mint and the Maryland mint (to mention just two) advertises knives and swords all the time what do you say about that?
go onto Yahoo and search for custom knives and see what you get.

you'll hear of the common kitchen knife used as weapons a lot more that any custom hand made knife
If I were you, I'd advocate locks on kitchen draws and teaching the parents to learn how to rise there kids again
some respect of others would deter many crimes..of all sorts..
I'll bet you won't put my story or my web site up.

What bugs me about this report is the way it attacks a small craftsman working out of his shed. There a many folks working out of their homes these days, often in businesses that due to various internet provisions are all but tax free. They get to claim a part of their home and car for business, and at least here don't pay business taxes. I knew a guy who ran a good size portfolio management firm out of a house he bought in a residential neighbourhood. They converted the guarage into a bond desk for 4 guys who did some complicated hedging. They located in a part of town with a high proportion of imigrant neighbours who mostly had their own businesses. This guy had a national reputation in Canada, and I think may even be sindicated in various US papers. He isn't doing anything wrong, but it shows the difference between how the white collar guy, and the blue collar guy are being treated.

Back at the ranch, many of us do our little handwork thing in a shed and in such a way that it doesn't bother our neighbours, yet 60 minutes feels it's fine to lie to this guy in order to bring him down because he is making fantasy weapons. He may have violated various local ordinance, and may get hit with a perjury charge. The beef the city has with him they wouldn't have if he ran an internet porn site out of his home.

It's not true that people won't spend big bucks and then go off on a fantasy rampage. Think columbine not relative to the specifics but relative to the fact they aped some movie as the inspiration for their weaponry, and spent quite a bit of time and energy recreating the scene. When I go to my local knife shop that is located in a shopping mall tons of kids come in looking for Asian blade weaponry and fantasy stuff. Occasionaly someone will come with their mom, but mostly it's kids. I did the same when I was young, though the influences were different. Generaly though money is a barrier. Eventualy this tactical (perhpas fantasy also) knife crap is going to get the rest of us in trouble, just as the assault weapons did. Still I like them.

This is the simple the mentality of our country.
Take it as a warning if you run your business from home in a residential neighborhood.
When I ran my shop from home I arranged to have a local company take my deliveries if they were shipped by truck. I shipped by mail and took my packages to the post office. All this and home businesses were allowed in my town. Allowed if the neighbors didn't put up a stink that is. The tupperware lady can have ups come every day. The knifemaker should be more careful.
Ya it sucks but that's just how it is brothers.
What's fair and just and the rights we're supposed to have don't really mean squat. Our neighbors aren't our customers. They have no business knowing our business. Keep it that way. The mail you recieve is just for your home office. Your shop is not located there. Right?

I should have rephrased that to read :footinmou
how many have you heard of that purposely went out to buy an $800.00 knife
% wise
just to hurt or kill some one with it. we are talking knives here.
Or I was ...

This is a perfect example of what the major networks will come up with to distract us while the real news of Enron, Gulf War II and Worldcom goes on unnoticed.

I do wonder, what exactly did the 'journalist' ask the neighbors to get such quotes...what it like:

"Are you aware that your neighbor creates knives and weapons for display or use in renaissance fairs?"

or

"Are you aware that your neighbor creates deadly weapons that can be used to maim, torture or kill innocent victims?"

I have no doubt how they phrased these questions. They are tailored to get the response they want. I should know, I was a journalist student once. I 'dropped' out of that program because I was a trouble maker. I liked guns, knives, freedom of speech, father's rights and I disliked abortion, taxes and the term "politically correct".

Anyway... my rant is through for now.

This is the message I sent, don't think it'll do any good, but this is the first time I sent anything, very disturbing

I was very disturbed after seeing the article on "Weapons for Sale". Disturbed as in this is pure sensationalism and you should be ashamed of hounding a hard working artisan such as Steve Liccatta. I prefer the more traditional work myself, but this is his art. I am morally outraged that you would stoop to this level.

In case you didn't know or decided not to do the proper research his work is known as "art knives", not weapons. As far as weapons go they by there very design they would not hold up to rigorous use. Let me make it clear, they are designed to hang in a display, on a wall or in a safe. Also "some of the deadliest weapons anywhere" brings to mind tactical nukes, chemical and biological weapons, not sculptures in steel.

I would also like to point out that the only US national living treasure is Jerry Fisk, an ABS master-smith, also known as a knifemaker.

You point out that he lives near a school, "So what?!, have you seen very many school kids that could shell out a grand or better? Or just maybe they would go down to Walmart or the local flea market and buy a twenty dollar import, or even or something from one of the innumerable magazines out there?

I ask you, has anyone ever actually been injured or killed by his work? You point out that his son is only a few feet away from the "Death Weapons", I would like to point out that I can promise you that his son knows better than to touch those "Weapons".

As for them being sharp? Are your kitchen knives sharp? What's the difference? There is none, except that the five dollar steak knife will likely be used to kill long before a thousand dollar collector piece.

This will be the last time I ever view your show, or buy any of the products that you advertise, I am whole heartedly disgusted with your report and the manner in which it was presented. If you ever decide to report facts and not drum up sensationalism worthy of the tabloids I might consider viewing again. I am greatly saddened that this is what our country has come to, so much for the land of the free, home of the brave.

This is just one of the reasons why i can't watch tv news anymore.

I e-mailed them and I'm sending all the links to freinds. I hope they get screwed big time, however it seems the liberal media can do and say whatever they like these days.

Want to talk knives specificaly, let's sit back and see what happens with all the new interest in movies like Kill Bill.

We did have an officer killed by a knife just down the road from here over the weekend. The 18 year old/perp had a bomb too, just a sleepy little town. No news yet on how much the knife cost. Not a lot of specific news at all, but this kind of thing hardens opinions of the average citizen. I think people in Cobourg are going to think that CBS has it about right. The news reported that 9 shots were fired by the police officer who died at the scene.
