Carothers Performance Knives, Use & Abuse. Take 2

What temp would ruin the edge?

I’ve been using a WS for what seems like 10 years. Primarily 6”+ blades. I have a dip tank I cool them between passes and never run it wide open.

Could just be lucky, I’ve never noticed any diminished cutting ability / edge retention.

Any particular sharpener recommended?
Nate’s posted a detailed explanation somewhere in this subforum;

Basically, it doesn’t take much to overheat the very apex of the edge, because by definition, a really sharp edge has very little material at the apex, and powered sanders will easily overheat that 0.001” due to the friction, but you probably won’t even feel the ‘heat’ on the edge with your fingers.

IIRC, he mentioned 400f being the point where you would mess up the Delta heat treat (quite some time ago, I asked about sending a CPK for a DLC coating, but IIRC, it was applied at ~500f, which is a no-no for D3V).

As for recommended sharpeners, any of the manual options will do.

I’ve had the opportunity to try the WorkSharp Precision Adjust Pro, and can highly recommend it for anyone looking for a guided angle sharpening system who doesn’t want to pay the $5xx+ for something like a TSPROF or Wicked Edge, but I’ve also seen what looks like a Chinese TSPROF knockoff on Amazon that was “$12x?. No experience with it, though.

the way I see it- any and all of this stuff out there on youtube or wherever that focuses on CPK product is good and worth promoting as much as possible.
the video I posted, I've never seen before I posted it here. In fact, I didn't watch it at all. I'd rather watch youtubes about K Dot vs. Drake or some other dumb bullshit.
but I hope other people here who haven't seen it watch it, and tell someone they know to do the same and that's how CPK eventually attains world domination. No such thing as bad publicity.

Abusing …. the turkey.

Welp…not getting that one back. RIP chopper

Edit: he did say that he was not going to destroy it.
My first thought was “Oh no! Who sent this guy a chopper???”

It was nice to seem him use it and not just destroy it. I liked his restraint and respect for the CPK!

I was so sad and afraid for a bit that he was going to break it, glad he backed it out of the un-batonable log.

Pretty cool and impressive after all that hard use that it still did a fine job chopping the bottles at the end, and even cutting the paper.

I like Joe’s comment about if you don’t like his video then you can F—k off, 🤣

Not very Christian of you, Christian. 🥳
Haha very true lol.

I think I was more referring to the part where he was saying how his viewers just want him to break knives and destroy them, and he seemed kind of over it.

Saying that this isn’t the video and then his “formality” lol.

It was kind of a nice change of video for him, in a positive manner. Still he makes me chuckle on some of the smack he talks lol. Never seen so many F-Bombs and Carothers in the same video as Joe-X, has to be some kind of record 😃

I like how he cut up the tire, slicing through the steel wire reinforced sidewalls, which will absolutely wreck a knife. His videos, which tend to be pretty destructive, don't always demonstrate the qualities that set a CPK apart, but I feel like this video did.
