Cheapskate Heroes

Two of the best big sub $100 knives I’ve ever used are the Condor Hudson Bay and Skrama 200. I could literally own these two knives and sell off the rest of my much more expensive knives and live happily ever after.
Sir, this is the cheapskate thread. You must turn in your expensive knives to the authorities (me) at once.

Good day.

Bahco 1446, cheaper than Mora (at least here in Europe...). At least I paid less than 6€ 😍

Is it? I'm getting mixed product details, some say made in china.
I recall someone posting a pic from the Morakniv factory that showed Bahco branded knives in the background, thereby confirming at least some Bahco knives were made by Morakniv. That may no longer be the case. I try to find the post/pic.

I know for sure some of their knives are, but it wouldn't surprise me if part of their product line is outsourced.

Yeah, some say its from China, others say its a Mora made knife, I've also seen they are sourced through Frost Cutlery via China.....Not really positive but Morakniv Sweden has been an OEM for Bahco Tools for some time.

CJRB Prado...the Tagged Out at home.

Thanks for this. I had a $50 amazon gift card and the prado was on sale for about $48 out the door.

I got the black G10 version and it's a lovely knife. The texture they chose for the G10 is my favorite, a bit like Emerson's G10... which means if you don't loosen the pocket clip it will eat your pants. My only gripe is the stop pin is pretty petite compared to my other folders that have it (the need to stab is real)... that and even with the addition of the sharpening choil they still jacked up the plunge transition.

Wen't to put my usual hand honed convex on it and hello smiley!

While I'm at it... has anyone posted the pyrite yet? Seems like it belongs in this thread. Here is the Large version, it's a bit heavy and slippery but the action is among the best I've owned:

They've probably been mentioned before, but I'll throw a plug in for the Cold Steel Outdoorsman-lite. I never paid attention to this line, figuring they probably really cut corners with it, but it's been a very enjoyable summer knife. Surprisingly robust, very comfortable (I actually like it somewhat more than the expensive version), same nicely thought out blade shape like its more expensive brother. The only thing I don't like is the sheath. It's serviceable, and safe, but extends too far up the handle making drawing a pain sometimes unless you modify it by trimming it back some. The belt loop is pretty ho-hum too.

A+ knife, C- sheath (can't blame CS too badly on this as good leather, nylon or kydex would raise the price dramatically).

Found a new cheapskate prize. Found this mini-auto from S&W on sale for $24.99
😁
440A steel, aluminum handles, made in Taiwan, seems pretty nice and pretty snappy! I like it! Pictured with a Tinker for size comparison

**Edited to say the web says it is made in Taiwan, however the box it came in has "made in China" printed on it, so I cannot say what the country of origin is with certainty

I've been neglecting this thread, but in my defense I haven't bought many cheapskate knives of late. But I did pick up my new favorite CS folder:

This only counts as a cheapskate due to the crazy sale price of less than $60.00. It's a tank that is also a cardboard slicing demon. I carried it for a month straight and love it. I even gave it a full set of PB washers:

I just looked up the Finn Lite on the BPS site and it looks kinda great. Could you please tell me how it feels in hand and how the grind is on your example?
It's small but because it doesn't have a hooked pommel, it doesn't feel like it's just a miniature version of a larger knife as the Ultra Light Bushcrafter sometimes does. The handles are some type of soft wood and would be worth redoing.
The grind is flawless on mine, as all BPS knives I've seen.
The sheath is not good. I carry mine in the ULB sheath.

Thanks for the info! I’m likely to get several of these - one for myself and others for friends (I’ve given my family lots of knives recently and they need a break 😅).

I haven’t had a puukko-style knife since I gave my Mora Classic to my wife (to replace hers that was stolen out of her car along with other gear), and I really like the full tang, steel, HRC and light weight of that BPS. 👍

Found a little review btw:
