The Cold Steel “drop forged” line of fixed blades are great cheapskate heroes. All made from 52100 carbon steel and absolutely bulletproof. I bought the “Hunter” model for under $50 as an apocalypse knife.

RR2193KentuckyBlackBird Nice one. What model is that?
Oh lord I got one of them and the D2 version and they are so frustrating, super annoying soft steel, and the D2 one have very very low quality d2 that have inconsistent heat treat that gets rolling/ flat spots that need constant attention after a day of cutting open
I have one in my hunting bag, very very great knife, it needs a little TLC by putting on a paracord handleThe Cold Steel “drop forged” line of fixed blades are great cheapskate heroes. Very nice! Is it true that the steel in these is tempered a little harder than your average Mora?![]()
Hultafors GK. Practically unbreakable knife. 10€ from local hardware store.
Looking to make my own sheath for it later on.

Well, fiddlesticks. Now I want a Hultafors knife.Hard to say. I think the GK is made of SK5 and are definitely bit thicker than average mora (reminds me of mora heavy duty). Also the blade has quite prominent bevel so they are not zero grind.
My plumber cousin also vouches for these as he used Hultafors knives for all kinds of abusive tasks like chiseling toilet bowls off with hammer etc.
Also Joe X - wether people like his methods or not - had hard time breaking these.
Now of course every knife is compromise in something but I’d be pretty happy having this one to the next nuclear war.
