For future reference:
The sooner the better on washing after being sprayed.
Also, if he had a collar on it will need washed repeatedly if fabric. Last time I just threw it away and bought a new one.
Yes his collar was fabric and is soaking in the dawn, peroxide, baking soda mixture. He has duplicates so it may get trashed. It was cold out, and night time and I didn’t want to get him all wet and make him sleep outside. And there’s no way he was getting in my shower. I was worried about him though so I checked in on him frequently. Years ago, my bullmastiff got sprayed and ran back to my wife. She came in the house to get me and said he was breathing weird. I went directly out there and he died within a minute or two. I was in shock.

Yes, no getting out the smell from his collar or your clothes for that matter.

I got sprayed full chest and face back in high school.

Mom made me strip naked in the back yard, had to throw away all my clothes, including my wallet and favorite belt too.

Washed off with the garden hose (ice cold in November), and lathered up in Old Spice, (did not help), but still went to school.

Learned a lot from that lesson. Tomato juice does not work.

I can still smell it to this day 😆
My wife picked up a baby one that we found in a culvert. It sprayed her hand but wasn’t too bad. We didn’t have tomatoe juice so we filled a latex glove with marinara sauce and she wore it for a while and it went away. I guess the babies spray isn’t as strong.

That’s awful, I’m sorry 😞

Most groomers offers a service to clean a dog after being sprayed by a skunk. They have special shampoos and the facilities to habdle it better.

Sorry to hear about your bullmastiff. Dogs getting sprayed in the face can get serious and hemolytic anemia can occur (it's pretty rare, but it happens) and can cause death.

If a dog shows any signs of lethargy, naseua, or diarrhea call your vet right away. Pale gums or loss of appetite can be signs to get checked out too.

Hopefully it's a lesson learned for the pup and you'll both be back roaming the woods and smelling better soon!

... this makes me sad I'm sorry for your loss

I love bullmastiff dogs......

yoko yoko Thanks. He was a good one named Pork Chop. He moved with me from Georgia to Northern California. I didn’t know a single person here so we spent a lot of time together exploring all of the natural wonders of this beautiful area. We lived in town for three years while I was in college and I met my now wife. She got a French mastiff and they were best buds. After that we all moved out to the woods. We had the two mastiffs and a pug, and all lived in a tiny cabin while we saved up a built our house which took way longer than we had anticipated. He set off our love of mastiffs. We had several others after him. It’s unfortunate that they don’t last longer. I have the two working line German Shepherd dogs now. They are a lot. They are exactly what they are supposed to be but compared to 20+ years of mastiffs it’s a lot to deal with. There is plenty to appreciate about them. They are down for whatever, whenever. They are extremely smart and very driven but no chill. They need lots of exercise and mental stimulation. When we had mastiffs and my wife would go do farm chores feeding animals and stuff, she would ask the mastiffs to go with her and they would avoid eye contact and just lay in their fluffy beds. If you ask the GSDs to do anything they are up for it. Different vibe for sure.

A buddy got my dog a comically large frisbee.
