Crucible Industries Update

I'm gonna ask here: how is it that a company such as Bestech can sell knives in Magnacut? I'm in Canada, and I see them offered through a large retailer on the West Coast. No way to control it? Where could the 'leak' be?

Discussed ad nausem already.....

We discussed buying the trademarks or being listed as a co-owner with Crucible earlier this year. We couldn't because of the pending sale and possible bankruptcy filing. We have applied for a patent and trademark for the new prototype grade and it looks like that will go through.

If you want EU protection for your mark(s), you can file an application directly with the EUIPO, without involving an attorney at that stage. The process is straightforward. Be sure to claim the priority of your US application (20 August 2024 if for MAGNAMAX), which is valid until 20 February 2025. 850 euros off your CC and you have your application.

After that you WILL need a representative though. I'm licensed to practice before the EUIPO - leave a contact message on my members page and we could talk. ( Blues Blues - I'm not trying to solicit business here - a helping hand for a nominal fee BF membership at best.)

You quoted me but I'm not the person to ask. nsm nsm is the best bet for further information on that score...or one of the other folks directly related to the business.

I'm happy to have you reach out to nsm nsm to lend a helping hand if you can...so I've no heartburn over you offering your services.

That said, I'm not the site owner, have no financial interest in the site, and cannot elevate members to other membership levels without paying for them personally as a gift.

I'm sure an accommodation can be reached.

Sorry, I wasn't asking you personally for that. I was trying to suggest the level of a fee I would ask for the help - to spend on a BF membership. 😀 I think I've said my part on the IP angles now and will stick to the metals/knife topic from here on. 👍🏻

No worries, TC. I'm certain that the matter of both the representation and the membership level will resolve itself in good time.

It's relatively simple for a company to obtain steel in the US then turn around and export the product to other countries. Happens all the time.

Unfortunate to see the possible loss of such a key player in the American automotive, aerospace, machine tool, and cutlery spaces.

In the interest of, well, interest...a list of developments and achievements from the Crucible website:

If I may interject a lighthearted thought into this discussion of a very sad situation, I live less than a half dozen straight-line miles from Crucible and I pass by the mill several times each week. When I’m carrying a knife that has a SPY27 blade or a MAGNACUT blade I sort of have a good feeling, knowing that the steel in the blade in my pocket had to have originated at that mill! And, let’s continue to hope that things evolve in a way wherein the workers ‘ welfare is not harmed.

Bad News

Erasteel has no plans to reorganize Crucible and keep the mill running or employ the 170 employees.

Erasteel is going to liquidate Crucible and take the intellectual property.

The bidding process has been extended by two weeks. Crucible is hoping to get another bidder that will not liquidate.

Unfortunately, Crucible does not have much time to look for new bidders.

Crucible Industries LLC will be out of money to operate sometime this February.

There are only a couple production knife companies I trust fully to thoroughly vet whatever new supply situation comes their way due to this.
