Cult of the Texas Jack; why should the peaNUTS get all the glory

Great thread - more steel, more knife! Here are a few - medium stag handled Texas Jack and two regular Texas Jack knives, a Case jigged bone and an Old Cutler in Delrin. OH

Come, My children. Pay no attention the the little man behind the curtain saying strange things about Texas Jacks. We know where your love is, so come to the peanut. We had a nice fresh pitcher of ice cold Kool-Aid for you to drink, so you will be happy in the land of the peanut. You'll never have to eat your vegetables again, and you will never have to grow up. All 3 inch and under pocket knives are welcome.

Come my brethren, drink the Kool-Aid. And we shall be as a school of piranha, and devour the large bloated others.

You mean even Pemberton's are welcome??? :)

Of course the Pemberton's are welcome. We just think of them as cousins that are a bit on the stocky side.:o

But family is still family, red headed or not.:D

Carl, Grand High Muckba of the little family cult.

I'm in! :)

I like this Texas Jack but don't have anything even close to it. Not that i won't someday, but for now it's 3.5" single and 2-bladed or larger. Only the Pemby is small.

wow, them peanut guys are ..sneaky sneaky
kool-aid bribes! no vegetables! Peter Pan'ism!

how does a texas jackian compete?
well, pride for one. Knowing when you pull out your Texas Jack to cut some string or open some mail, you wont be asked if that is your girlfriends knife!
Pride in being assured that when you do pull our your TJ lady folks will refer to it as "a beauty" as opposed to "cute"
pride in knowing that for the vast majority of people, your knife will provide a decent 4 finger grip rather an a precarious 3 finger grip!

ohh and texas jack side has whiskey! not kool-aid :D

Oh, we have whiskey. But the Cult rule of drinking is based on the wisdom passed down from a very seasoned British army officer from the India days. "Never touch liquor before sundown, but never go to bed quite sober."

Words to liver by.

Carl, Grand High Muckba of small knives and hard drinking.
:D

Yea... at the peanut land the Grand Muckba Carl keeps us happy and funky with sugary drinks and wiskey.

Well I agree a full-sized #1 is pretty much mandatory, with the lil guy as a fantastic #2. But a small knife just can't quite do everything well - sometimes you just need a bigger knife. EDC'ing two (large n small) covers all the bases. :)

Lately I'm more and more liking my 92 Eureka Jack and my newest love is the 48 Trapper. Both are FULL sized, sturdy knives. The Pemby or a Peanut in combination with something like those is my idea of "Ideal" for my needs. In a more genteel setting the lil guy fits in marvelously. When more serious tasks are required the bigger knife steps up.

At this point if someone said I have to choose ONE pocket knife to be my lifetime companion it would be the 92 Eureka Jack with pen/coping combo.

All that being said, you do have me casting an eye towards the Texas Jack - my curiosity is piqued!

This little Peanut/Pemberton sized Ohta is with me everyday! I guess I'm in!
Pass the Koolaid, Carl!

Very good Carl, think my neighbours must have heard me laughing at that one! :D

(But hey, I like vegetables! :D )

I love the Texas jacks but I have been confused by Case's designations. I have a "small" Texas jack in Amber bone but I have 3 "medium" jacks by Case that have rounded bolsters and they are smaller. Are the "medium" jacks not Texas jacks? I have a peanut but it just doesn't measure up to my small and medium jacks so count me in...they are my all time favorites!

Chris

Could all of the Texas Jack Fans tell me about the recent variations offered in the last 5 years? I know of the current amber bone CV, and Stag version as well as stainless versions in green apple with pinched bolsters, lime green, and saw cut green clover. Am I am missing any for someone starting a small collection?

Thanks,

Case made two "Texas Jacks"; they are square bolstered jacks with pen and clip. The larger 6292 is 4 inches closed with round tangs, while the medium sized 6232 is 3 5/8 inches closed and has square tangs. Case also calls the 32 a 'gunstock' I believe, although not a typical one. For your perusal are these 1970's models:

I think we need to watch out for fractionating within the Traditionals forum, first it was the Peanut Cult, now the Texas jacks, before long factions/cliques will begin to form, sometimes within hours of each other, as cels form within the Traditionals forum....

Maybe the SAK fans get a cult, will it split down the Celidor/Alox line? Will the Canoe fans cultify, or a holy war form between the followers of Trapp-ism or Stock-men? And what about the biggest schism potential?....

Carbon Steel Vs. Stainless.....
