I tried drilling out the pins to replace with screws but ended up destroying the scales. So I removed all the hardware and blade and I’m looking for scales to refit but everything says not compatible with the LW version. Someone plz tell me there is a solution to my problem I just recently bought the dam thing.

Why did you do that? What were you expecting to accomplish by adding screws? And what were you intending to screw them into? The LW does not have liners. Quite bizarre....

And no, I am not aware of aftermarket scales for the LW.

I'd just send all of the parts to Spyderco w/a letter asking them to rebuild it.

Pray that they are willing to do so for no more than the cost of a new pair of FRN scales & the rivets to attach them.

And promise myself to never do something like that ever again.

There are screws with male and female parts that screw into one another I wasn’t aware the model I purchase was pinned poor observation on my part

Ahhh, ok....they are called Loveless or Chicago screws.

You are still SOL.

Understandable mistake I guess. But if it were me, once I received it and saw that it was pinned, my first thought would be to either live with it as is, or return it. Taking a drill to it would never even enter my mind.

If you check out the Spyderco subforum you will find that doing the rivet-to-screw conversion on the M2LW has been done many times, so the OP is not in uncharted waters. It is tricky and one must be extremely cautious doing it - slipping and heat being the main dangers. Frankly it is a real shame Spyderco hobbled the M2LW design by making it non-maintainable, especially when offering it in sprint runs with non-stainless steels.

What if I got a regular manix 2 I would be able to just swap the blade atleast right? The dimensions weren’t changed for the blade I hope. Atleast I can cope a little better thinking I have a spare s90v manix blade I paid $110 for 😭

I just left a message with Spyderco pray for me

FWIW, Spyderco is NOT good about responding to emails or phone calls. So, I wouldn't wait around for them to respond to your msg.

Besides, they won't tell you what they can/can't do until they get the parts from you. So, if you don't have the means to repair it on your own, the best course IMO is to just send it to them, rather than suffer the frustration and delay in trying to contact them first.

Spyderco says that it can "reassemble" a knife that has been disassembled for just $20 plus $5 shipping. See: Spyderco Warranty & Repair

However, if the scales are NOT savagable and they do not have any more scales available, they could refuse to do the repair and return the parts to you w/o doing anything. So, I'd just include a check for $5 for return shipping. They can contact you for additional payment if they can/will do the repair.

Good luck!

Spyderco is updating the Manix LW to screw construction, so perhaps you will be in luck. However honestly I'm not sure if they're even making them that way yet, I just remember it being announced last year.

Don't know, but if you hit a dead end with Spyderco, may want to check out the Spyderco subforum as Officer's Match Officer's Match mentioned, and either try the conversion yourself, or see if someone that's done it before would be willing to do it for you.

Applied Weapons Tech makes aluminum linerless scales for the Manix 2 (EDIT: not specifically for the LW, assembly reuses screws, spacer and clip from the G10 model).

So I can just slap this together with the hardware ? Only thing I don’t have is a back spacer as the one it had was part of the scales
You'll need to buy some hardware, since they're really intended for the G10 version and re-use some of the factory screws.
