One of the supporting custom makers here at BF, JK Handmade Knives (John K) - showed pictures of his new Pocket Piglet - (my name, not his) - I thought it was cool.

I carry one of his previous designs, a K-Tool - that is made from 01 tool steel so it can be used as an edge for sparking etc, and it has a screwdriver and a cap lifter on it, and it is designed to hang on your keychain. It also has a prybar end on it that can be used for scraping (gaskets for instance).

I see a lot of other folks that carry other tools, there are some neat ones out there. The first one that I ever carried was when I was a little nipper riding dirt bikes, I had (and still have) a Sears Craftsman 4-way screwdriver tool on my key-ring.

If you had a tool like John's Pocket Piglet, would you prefer it in carbon steel or stainless (JK offers both, mine is 01 as noted above, and it has not had any corrosion problems, although it has a nice patina on it after a couple years of constant use.

Post your pocket tool pictures and some note of why you like it etc.

I have a collection of Leatherman type tools - and I have a few Micras - I used to always have one on my keychain - a great tool for sure.

Good choices.

Just got a Gerber Shard

That is a cool one - I like how the phillips is incorporated very simply, and the nail PULLER tool is a good idea as well, that would cover a lot of the prying jobs that routinely come up.

I also have a Kershaw K-tool on my keychain.

I love keychain tools, probably because I grew up in an era where they were the multitools of their day. But I carry them in my wallet so they are always on hand when I fly. Usually I'll have a SAK around, but travel by air and not checking luggage means no SAK. So my Sear's 4-way and old army issue P-38 are in my wallet where they go through security just fine. The P-38 gives me a wide range of options and can deal with both flat and phillips screws, opening cans or bottles, and the "blade" an be used for light twine or other light cutting jobs. Last time we flew, it was a long flight and the under manned flight attendants were very harried. My wife order a bottle of wine, and the flight attendant dropped the small bottle in my wife's lap on the run. It had a twist off cap, but was sealed with very heavy foil that was almost a light sheet metal to senior citizens arthritic fingers. With no knife, it as impossible to peel it off. But the pointy blade of my P-38 zipped right through it.

I've carried that P-38 for almost 50 years now, it's been sooo handy many times. Little tool with many uses.

A P38 (with safety pin) and a Sears 4-Way are in my pocket everyday. And a Victorinox Farmer is on my belt everyday.

Where can you buy a good quality P38?

I'm not sure what to tell ya, but they can be found. One thing, beware of cheap Chinese copies. The one I've had for decades is a U.S. made Speaker Brand. There's also a brand in the U.S. marked Shelby. Beware of ebay stuff, a lot of fakes out there.

If you feet a real U.S. made one, carry and use it for a while, and you'll be amazed at what you can do with it. There's a reason, even though we have SAK's and Leathermans, us old fart G.I.'s still keep our old P-38 tucked away in a wallet. Just too handy to have around, and they go where something with a knife blade won't.

mqqn Nice Piglet. As for your stainless or carbon question I would go for carbon. I like a good patina.
This is what I carry most days.

I've been carrying this on my key ring for a while now. It started after forgetting my regular edc knife a couple times. I've used the tools more than the blade though. It's also nice to have something that goes unnoticed at security checkpoints so I don't have to be completely knifeless. There is an Uncle Bill's Sliver Gripper next to it on the ring. They are some of the best tweezers I've ever used and I highly recommend them.

That Pocket Piglet is pretty cool, Andy. Personally I would go with stainless because of my corrosive sweat and using it as a striker isn't a big selling point for me. Don't think you could go wrong either way, though.

Nice, Danny -

I bet everyone has today or has had some version of that Mac tools pocket knife - I have a couple lying around, but none are the quality Mac Tools version - thanks for posting that!
