Dual Survival

The Porcupine hunt looked canned though clearly the clam gathering wasn’t. I kinda liked the show. Darn nice looking winter shelter!

Great point. I have seen Cody wearing footwear mocs and gaiters, I think,(with shorts and a T-shirt, of course:rolleyes:) in cold environments before... he is not above that. I think that he was pushing the limits on footwear (or the lack of) to make for a better show.

I think you're completely correct about him pushing the limits for the sake of the show. And, it probably made for a good opportunity for him to push his own limits, safely (relatively). Too good a chance to pass up seeing for himself what his body could take.

Not sure how this will be any different from Man vs Wild or Survivorman...with the exception of sticking 2 men out in the wild somewhere instead of 1...

I think the main difference is that these these two guys both know survival whereas Bear is into adventure(ism).

In some respects the bickering that goes on also provides opportunities for discussion and legitimate critique about what to do and what not to do. For example, I think Cody's stern warning about going out at night was really directed more at the viewers than at Dave per se. It also means that plain stupid advice is not tolerated by either of the two.

Bear gives plain stupid advice all the time, so the difference between the shows will be major in this factor. Unfortunately, most bear fanboys will grow bored of duel survivor and inevitably start some stupid debate about who would kick the other's ass.

i finally caught the first episode via youtube, yesterday... i thought it was okay.. like most folks, i didn't care for all of the nagging that Dave was doing.. staged or not, we all know that Cody knows his stuff,(Dave included) regarless of how he approaches things and the way he lives his life reflects many cultures over thousands of years...

I agree 100%. Well said Mike.

I liked the show. Nice seeing 2 guys who know whats what out there. 2 guys who are very differant, but very similar. I respect Cody Lundin very much, and love his work. Im unfamiliar with Dave, but have watched a few of his you tube vids. Good stuff.

Im looking forward to more of this show, I love the differant perspectives. I just hope to not see fu&*ing tv executives turn it into an american chopper drama fest.:jerkit: Ratings should be earned through content, not drama. Ive got the DVR set, so I guess time will tell.

I'm pretty sure Cody would kick Dave's butt if it came down to it, and I would pay to see it on PPV.

I finally got around to watching the episode, and I've gotta say I'm liking it so far. It's simple, straightforward, and the showmanship is minimized compared to the "normal" survival type shows that usually get on TV.

I especially liked the moment where Cody was giving Dave grief about it being unsafe to go out in the dark. If it was Bear, he'd be drinking urine, wrestling a moose naked, then doing a cannonball into the icy water, and acting as if all of it was necessary for survival, while here we have two guys arguing over whether it's worth the risk to leave the fire while it's dark outside. Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum!

THAT's hysterical!!:D

I just finished watching both episodes and I can say so far it is the best survival show I have seen. I line up with Dave Canterbury’s philosophy a lot more than Cody's, but Cody seems to do pretty well. There is more than one way to skin a cat. I just think Dave's philosophy is much better for the most extreme situations when things go bad. I want to have warm clothes.

BTW, Mors book does describe what Cody did with the wool socks in the snow but Mor's method used 3 sets of heavy wool socks. He said the outside layer would freeze over and the inner wool socks would still provide insulation. I will take him at his word on this; I do not want to find out if it works or does not work.

After watching Episode 2 - I Eat My Words. I note that they taste bitter as though they were full of alkaloids ;)

Just watched the one show showing them rappelling down into the water. Can't say I feel this was strictly necessary. I was impressed with Londin catching the eel and Canterbury making a net carryall. Both clever improvisations. Curiously Canterbury only cut things with his ice axe, like he didn't have a knife.

I'm enjoying the series a lot, granted I have a bias to Dave's attitude as I stumbled upon his mammoth You Tube channel a while ago and have watched everything he's uploaded.

Would like to hear about the film crew and how they worked alongside Cody and David.

I love the bickering between the two. It's all good natured and most certainly egged on by the producers but it's entertaining to see two perspectives that are so different.
