Zippo lighter fluid makes short work of anything sticky (from sap, to chewing gum, to packing tape adhesive).

I keep a rag soaked in mineral oil in a ziplock in my pack. I’ve never had anything it couldn’t clean off my blade. Including adhesives and gypsum from drywall (I’ve always been amazed at how strong gypsum adheres to metal).

I keep a pack of block oil (mineral oil) wipes handy. Each sheet is already loaded with oil. Just pull wipe and seal the pack back up. Very convenient food safe and easy to store. For reference see below

I keep a small MRE Tabasco bottle full of mineral oil in my backpack, mainly for sawing fatwood.

I keep a small MRE Tabasco bottle full of mineral oil in my backpack, mainly for sawing fatwood.

Similarly, with my rag I have a small plastic dropper bottle (repurposed ear drop prescription container from one of the kids) that I keep filled with mineral oil.

I keep one of those little Kitchen Sponges cut in half, in a baggie, and then with some mineral oil added, lasts me quite a long time.
Plus it has scotch brite on the other side if things get real grizzly.
