I’ve been travellig so much before Christmas I just got this BMF in hand, and I can already say I think we’ll become BFF.

I’ll use this thread to post comparisons and thoughts as I use it over the holidays. Feel free to chime in if you like Gus!

If you have any non-destructive, PG13 requests, let me know and I’ll try to accommodate. ;)

Some background and detail would be welcome. How long to production? What is blade length? Height? Stock thickness? Handle length? Est price? Is this in addition to the current Field Knife? Or will it replace it?

Some specs:
9.5" total length
4 5/8" blade length
8.0 ounces
Delta 3V
.188" thick
20 DPS

The one presented in the OP was sold as a prototype at the price of $260 plus shipping ($12). The production of this model aka FK2 has started and they will be tricking into the wild starting in early 2019. The original FK has been retired for over a year none, so there will be no more of that pattern.

I think Nathan had a post that also included a discussion about the difference in grind? If any of you nimble-fingered/minded gents had that link, it would be much appreciated.
And, if there is indeed a difference, it would be great to hear if any of the guinea pigs notices it. Thanks!

ETA: remembered that the difference may be with respect to the HDFK/EDC2(?) and that the FK2 will not have the slight “s” grind of those models?

I'd like to see the handle thickness from the top view compared to the HDFK too. It looks like a similar shape to my eye, which means it should be a winner. The slim handle was the only negative for me on the original FK.

Any chance of seeing it side by side with an HDFk? Maybe on the flats as well as on it’s edge? I’m curious on the handle size / thickness in comparison. It looks great!

Edit: sorry I meant to reply to N ni1s

Thanks,
Justin

Sure thing! I’ll reunite the family this weekend when I go to the cabin and I’ll compare it with EDC/FK/HDFK/LC.

Regarding the FK2 pricing, as the link in Oyster's post to Nathan's Dec 2 post in the ANAQ thread indicates, will be far less than $400. I don't know where that number came from, but I suspect that someone must've brought something up to that effect maybe based on the original FKs secondary market pricing?!

Anyway, the original FKs were selling in the $215-$230 range with standard micarta / G10 handle scales (plus shipping) but CPK did announce in early 2018 an across the board price increase of 10% - 25% depending on the pattern. Therefore the FK2 ought to fall in the $250-$275 price range again depending on the handle scales options (maybe a bit more $ with the very fancy schmancy scales if an option). The guinea pig samples which Nathan had offered for sale at $260 were huge loss leaders per Nathan's sales thread.

I was expounding a bit more vis a vis the price, in reference to the post by marchone. There is no doubt in the fact that Nathan & Co not only offer exceptionally well designed / built knives at exceptional values, but they also deliver what they promise ;)
