FK2 Prototype

The new handle is much more comfy with gloves. The palm swell does wonders, but mostly the swell at the pommel. It feels much safer to use, and in comparison it feels like you miss the control and grip of that part. But I had not noticed it so much before I compared them.

As you’ve become used to and spoiled with, the FK2 was sharp as #&$@! So tonight I’ll start working on a sheath. But until then I found a discarded one that worked ok. And surprisingly enough you can carry it inside the pocket! I’m not saying you should, but you can. And it’s quite cozy. This is how I prefer to carry the EDCs.

Awesome pics and write up ni1s!

Is there any notible difference between Nathans 3V and Survives? I know they use the same HT but I noticed on the jimping of the 4.1 and 4.7 there looks to be a fair amount of rust. How is the FK fairing?

Thank you! I think this is mostly related to surface finish. The S! Finish looks pretty, but I’ve had issues with rust spots forming quite easily. Something I’ve not had with CPK finish. I prefer the stonewashed (?) finish of the old GSO before the “peened” by a mile in terms of performance.

I’m also pretty close to the ocean and it’s quite rainy/humid here which might be slightly worse than average.

(Also it’s a pain to get rid of inside the jumping.)

Funny that, because they claimed the peened finish was meant to add to better corrosion resistance . I know 3V isnt stainless but those spines on the survives look quite messed up.
I to prefer stonewashed. I have sinced moved on from Survive to focus on CPK so i'm glad that is your experience. Thanks for the comparison photos and write up. Keep it up ;)

Thank you very much for putting the field knives in hand to the tests all the rest of us want to. The BMF went to the right person and holdfully it will come out a winner, but in reality we all know how it will fair being it was made by a Evil Maker.

Balance point. Both are balanced so the tip will fall down with the tiniest move.

After handling it for a day, I would have guessed that the FK2 was slightly more back heavy than the FK1. But it looks almost identical. I think it might be related to the position your hand naturally finds on the handle. With the FK1 it feels like one position, mid/fronr. (Maybe since I’ve used it more.) With the FK2 it’s rather three positions that feel natural: front, middle, and back. Especially the back grip is very different from the FK1. I never use it with FK1, but it feels good with the FK2 and invites some snap cuts, even though the blade not quite have the weight for it.

I have moved the balance point forward on the production fk2 compared to those prototypes
Does this mean you have the design pretty much dialed in to how you want it or do you anticipate any more (significant) tweaking?
Or, put another way, did that beautiful pic of the two stacks of FK2s already represent the final product? :D
