FK2 Prototype

Hey thanks for this response. Along with the makers you're one of the current experts so I appreciate your response.

Hardknocks I'm waiting for that preorder too. How many do you plan to get??

If a pre-order is offered? Likely four to six. I wouldn't normally buy that heavy but I have a lot of experience with the original and also my boy and one of my cousins want in. I won't go after that many without a preorder, don't want to screw other folks out of a chance at one. I guess I'll have to wait and see how this one shakes out.

Thanks for all the posts and reviews.
I have been excited to see this since I missed out of the original FK ... and really like the small tweaks to the FK2 ...

I can't wait hopefully for a preorder ... This will be a knife I will definately want more than one of.

I'm in the same position having missed the first FK and the heavy duty version. I'll keep watching for a chance to buy. Does CPK have any kind of communication like email notices about sales and presales? I'm mainly an ESEE guy so this is a different kind of buying experience for me.

Like Chip said, subscribe to that 'next sale' thread. Nathan does announcements there. You may want to subscribe to the CPK BuySellTrade thread as well. A lot of regulars list there first before going out to the 'fixed blades by individuals' exchange. I believe most of the main goings-on pretty much happen somewhere on this subforum.

Nils, thanks for the additional pictures!

Man I am excited about this knife! I had a FK1 for a brief "catch and release" period and I compared it to my Survive! GSO 4.1 (New spec) which previously was my declared "perfect all-around knife." The FK1 ran neck and neck with it in my report to my also CPK obsessed buddy. If I recall, they both scored about 9's out of 10.... I think the FK2 will get to that 9.5 score... maybe even a 9.75!

My only wish is scale-wise... I strongly prefer the old micro-textured scales to the ones with the grooves in them, I would love for that to be an option? Also, there is a 95% chance I will want to grab a Sagewood scout carry sheath for this when I get it, so the option to eliminate any sheath would be great (provided Brian got one and started producing sheaths for it).

But yes, I am ready to start sending monies across the globe to lock one of these down! Such beautiful stuff.

Really happy to see this offering with the taller and thinner blade angle. Version 1 was almost my favorite knife of all time, except the blade angle tended to crush and break MacIntosh apple slices. I’ve spent up to a month in the field, and food prep was the overwhelming use of a knife, followed by cutting rope.
Honestly, batoning wood never happened once, nor did cutting nails or concrete blocks.
Now, most of my fixed blade field use other than food prep is skinning and cleaning deer and feral pigs. The ability to cut a spine at vertebral joints or hip joint is where this one should shine. Your work with 3V should allow the thinner angle to be exceptionally durable with good edge retention.
Looking forward to this new version and will buy several for myself and my nephews who hunt with me. Thumbs up.

From back on page four:

The scales could still change. We're many iterations deep at this point.

It takes a few tries to get the handle dialed in. It's one of the more challenging aspects of knife design.

I also tweaked the blade shape back a tiny bit closer to the original.

yeah, the edge side of the blade is staying like I have it, the tall thin grinds are staying, I'm just taking the spine down a little straighter like the original.

Not dropping the point, but straightening the spine, at least as I read it. Although it's entirely possible that I'm the one that's confused. I just know that I love the profile of those protos.

Is it no longer a drop point on the fk2?

I’m wondering that too because I could swear seeing a post from Nathan saying that he was going to drop the point a tad bit more like the original FK

It looks like the FK2 has more of a belly and the FK1 has a sharper point. Is this observation accurate? I wonder how this would affect precision tip work compared to the old version.

Hi guys, Im new to the forum. I am looking to buy a knife that will last me the rest of my hunting career. I have chosen Carothers Performance Knives after reading many different forums. How can I get ahold of a CPK Field Knife with the Blue Denim Handle. Thanks in advance

Later this year the FK2 will be released.
As far as the blue denim scales... they haven’t been used in a long time.
