Sartorial elegance

Well it is flashπŸ˜πŸ˜†
You're a dapper gent Mitch πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
Certainly were. Fish & Chips, Pork Pie both with peas. I am assuming they are mushy peas with the fish and chips, and gravy with the pie. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ₯°
Pie was steak and ale πŸ˜‹ Does kind of look like pork pie. Matt's fish and chips looked good too πŸ˜‹πŸ‘
I had two quotes, I thought. One about the forks in the folk museum: I can match some of their other utensils, too.
One about a building called the Crown: We parked our caravan early in our trip in 1967 outside a pub called the Crown. The proprietor was a very rough-looking customer with a rougher guard dog inside the pub. Somewhere we bought bread that seemed to have wood chips in it, and we met the milkman, who couldn't bring us milk to the grounds of the pub because "Oh, I'm not allowed there". He delivered it just over the property line.

Yeah, there was a lot of stuff in the museum you'd spot walking round the home of an average hoarder like myself! 😁 'Welcome to England'! 😱🀣 Do you remember where The Crown was Jer? πŸ‘

Good morning Guardians. Went golfing yesterday for the first time since surgery. A little tired by the end of the round but I made it though OK. I usually do not carry any of my LF knives with me as I am always afraid of losing them whilst on the links. When I returned home I grabbed my trusty HHB. I alway silently thank Jack and Charlie C for my having such a great knife. The photo has a golf cap from St Andrews - got it there when on vacation but I never got to play the Old Course.

Glad you can enjoy the links again Bill.
Those HHB's are a treasure for sure.

I still have the journal Mom made me keep, and I know where it is! I'll have a look.

It may have been "in a cafe yard" between London and Canterbury, our first night. Dad had arranged the caravan the day before, and had hoped to get out of London before the rush hour, but the modified VW bus wasn't ready till late afternoon. The knob came off the gearshift starting uphill in traffic, and we kids made helpful remarks about the car behind us. That night Dad broke into the duty-free brandy he'd bought for our friend Spaltmann, but it lasted the whole three weeks, and so did we all.

It's above freezing, fortunately, because it's raining again, and set to continue overnight. I haven't read the hydrologic statement, but it probably says that the ground is already saturated and the rivers will flood. (Glad my little sister didn't buy that charming house on the river in Comstock.)
Fingers crossed for those expecting worse things in States west and south of here.

I might not go any further afield than I have to today. (It's my day mostly off.)

Another thing i got wrong.
There are worse things than mixing up pies mate! :D Though, I do remember when I was no more than 7, me and my mate, were walking home from town just before Christmas, and we decided to spend our last pennies on a couple of mince pies from an old-fashioned baker's shop. We were expecting sweet, spiced fruit, but the filling was spiced minced meat! We were disappointed, but in retrospect, I am glad to have tasted something, which was once traditional. Within a few years that whole area of Sheffield was gone, and I have not seen a pie of that type since
Looks like a great trip, Jack! Thanks for all the pictures, sure is some beautiful countryside in the UK.
Thanks Dan, I don't think it compares to something as spectacular as Yosemite, for example, or the Grand Canyon, but on this small island, the countryside is never very far away :)

I love those covers David, I'm glad they haven't darkened too much :)
Unsurprisingly, I'm carrying this one.

I've had a busy day! Hope everyone has had a good one :) When I signed off last night, me and my pals had just finished our dinner, and were having a few pints. True to form, Wolfie bailed out around 8pm, so he could surreptitiously clock on with the missus  The wind howled all night, and the rain was falling sideways, but we were snug inside the Tan Hill Inn

In the morning things were different, and the sun rose on a fine day :)

After a windy night, the car campers flocked into the pub early, packing the dining room to the exclusion of paying guests, and the previous night's good service was replaced by something very poor, along with third-rate food. The Tan Hill Inn was one to tick off the list, but none of us left with ambitions to return. Outside, it was still not fit for slingshot practice, and Matt and Wolfie were keen to hit the road without a tanning on the targets ;) I took a few last pics before we departed

In the Lake District we headed for Windemere, England's largest lake, travelling many miles out of our way to try some top-rated apple pie at the aptly-named Apple Pie Cafe in Ambleside! πŸ˜‹

IMG_9355C.JPG

We all agreed the apple pie was the best apple pie we'd ever tasted, but what do 3 Limeys know?! In retrospect, I wish I'd leveraged a second piece, then I might just have had a photo! We were on a far more urgent mission though. Despite having 3 months notice of the trip, Wolfie was so busy peeling grapes for SWMBO that he only packed at the last minute, forgetting, (along with his wallet, self-respect, and much else), a hat to cover that shiny, bald noggin! πŸ˜– Not only did we have to find him one, but it had to cost less than Β£2

IMG_9360.JPG

We searched the avenues and alleyways of Ambleside, which looked far too upmarket for a scrote from the wrong side of Leeds

IMG_9361.JPG

IMG_9365.JPG

Wolfie rejected them all because of style or price-tag, preferring to risk frostbite of the bald bonce! πŸ˜–

In showery weather, we went on our way, driving towards the Kirkstone Pass, and Ullswater, arguably the area's prettiest lake :)
