Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Way back at the start of 2020, I was excited about an adventure I had planned to visit a Maypole festival, in a small historic town, which I hadn't visited before. Barwick-in-Elmet, is only 7 miles out of Leeds, but kind of remote, and it has an interesting history, once being located in the old Celtic kingdom of Elmet. They have a Maypole festival, which in 2022 was every 2 years, and is now every 3, when they erect a new pole, the highest in the country, and there's basically lots of fun and boozing. I started researching the place, and walks I might do nearby, but then Covid came along and scuppered my plans. I'd more or less forgotten about it, until Matt, who remembered my excitement, mentioned it, and asked if I wanted to go out there tomorrow (a holiday here). This was a few weeks back, and I have to say, both of us would prefer to go to a local music festival organised by 2 friends of ours, but the kids are excited, and Ruth, Matt's missus, has arranged to meet an old school friend out there. Since some of the roads are closed because of the festival, and Matt wants a few pints, getting out there and back is going to involve a couple of expensive taxi rides, but hopefully, if the weather forecast improves, it'll be a good day. There's a few links below, but maybe take them with a grain of salt ;)

Then an adventure tomorrow
😁
Speaking of adventures(and Baseball), my niecelet's choir just sang at a Cardinals game and my niece got a shot of the niecelet in the corner of the jumbotron.

Just noticed I Forgot to hit the 'Post' button this morning!! 😖

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is having a great weekend :) I think I'm just going to potter around the house today, do a bit of tidying up, some lollygaggin', maybe catch up with my slingshot practice :) I have a work meeting online early evening, but it'll be an easy one. Then an adventure tomorrow ;) Have a great day Guardians

I hope the weather is good for the festival 👍

Here's my kind of excitement: I bought a gallon of whole milk for two dollars, because it was close to its sell-by date, figuring at worst I'd be out a fraction of $2. This store sells pints for $2.
I cunningly decanted it into my golden anniversary Realemon carafes to reduce the surface area of the milk, and the third quart was good to the bottom. I expect the fourth one will be as well.
I'll do this all the time with newer whole milk, which is cheaper everywhere in gallons.
Mwahahaha.

Most of the remaining local rags here are owned by big corporations, and a lot of the content is identical. They're badly written, uninteresting, and packed with adverts. No wonder people baulk at paying to read yesterday's news, particularly when there's very little news in them

The illustrious Miami Herald has always been a heavily biased, over-politicized rag written (assuming other U.S. newspapers are written at about a 4th-grade level) for, and possibly by, 2nd graders. I don't think anyone has noticed (or much cares) about their continual and steady decline. If I must say something nice about them, it would have to involve their steadfast commitment to mediocrity. If they offered me a job, I suppose I'd take it with the knowledge that not much would be expected of me. 🤣

Once upon a time, we had the world-class satirist Dave Barry holding down the humor column, which was excellent, but I think he rubbed the more defensive members of the "community" (I use this word extremely loosely) the wrong way and those times are now long past.

It's okay, I guess. We didn't deserve him. Satire flies right over the heads of 99.9% of the South Florida population. I really got to get out of here. Some day.

There was a night when I started drinking whiskey sours and I don't remember the rest. The recollections of that night by others sound too far-fetched for them to be considered reliable witnesses. We'll just leave it at that. 🤣

Here's a rare pile-side shot of Tilly along with a painting I've been working on not finishing for years now. It portrays a woman, against a blue background, wearing a bird on her head with two large bone-like protuberances - which is also The Word of the Day. Protuberances.

I don’t know where you plan on going, it’s the same everywhere. Social media, modern politics and a declining education system across the west has dulled critical thinking.

I recently fired up Instagram to discuss some knife related questions with a maker and made the mistake of reading some news posts. My view on the state of things was not challenged.

Anyway, here’s a lamb!

Always a pleasure to see that special
Thanks buddy.
Cool pic of that great-looking knife buddy
Thank you mate.

Good morning Guardians. Cloudy start to the day here in southern coastal NC. Hoping for some rain because it has been dry for awhile. Still recovering from my adventure with the oral surgeon but slowly improving. Have my HHB with me today.

I was having the same conversation with a neighbour, and we had to agree that the quality of the journalism has certainly contributed towards the decline of printed newspapers here. That is true, even of the nationals :( The paper I used to read, and occasionally write for, sacked its longstanding cartoonist a couple of years back, despite him being rated as one of the best here

Evening gents...
Cool pic buddy  Great to see one of the Damascus Lambs :)
Natty bowlerMitch :) I was watching something last night, and it was claimed that the most common style of hat in the old American West was actually the Bowler - or 'Derby' - rather than the Stetson
Why did the the ducks cross the road this morning?.......................To get to the other side😁

LOL! :D There's an old joke shop in Scarborough on the North Yorkshire coast, which claims to have invented the chicken joke! :D

To all the Americans who served especially any Porchonians my thoughts with you on this Memorial Day.
+1

Good morning Guardians, I hope you're all well, and I'll echo Leon's words on US Memorial Day. The holiday here today is just called 'Spring Bank Holiday', but it's the old Whitsuntide or Whit Monday. When I was a boy, it was still a time when children would be given new clothes, and there were all sorts of parades. I guess that relates to the event I hope to attend today. Typically, the weather is being uncooperative however, with a forecast of increasingly heavy rain throughout the day. It was raining when I got up, but currently, at just approaching 9.00am, the sun is trying to break out. I guess we'll see  Enjoy your day Guardians

Tomatoes and pasta = 😋

Makes sense about bowler/derby being the most common. Majority of immigrants were city or town dwellers and would already have a hat or headwear of choice.

Love that sign must be an interesting shop.

Have a great day.

That fourth quart of milk would have been good, but apparently there was some undissolved dishwasher detergent in the Realemon flask.
I have some emergency powdered which turns out to be a little too old. Finally I realized I have some faux creamer in my church tool bag, which is in the house when I'm not at church.

I cut some lower branches from my little Norway maple yesterday. There are some interesting curves that I'm going to make into throwing sticks. I don't think I'll ever learn to make that blowgun work.
