Recommendation? Help me choose

Interesting. I thought they received high praise in general, but good to know!
I, personally, owned an Aurora that had terrible edge rolling. And other Bark Rivers that failed in some way. I also owned others that were fine.

But they are massively overpriced for what you get, so definitely search for threads on this topic.

There's no real good answer, other than I feel like owning a more premium/aesthetically pleasing knife, compared to the Mora's i usually have with me? I think there's something to be said about a knife that makes for feel good when using it, other than the grind or alloys or metals etc. Good question
I think I'd like to change my answer. I know a knife that will make you feel good, look good, and still be relatively cheap. You should get Cudeman mt-5. Aside from the wonderful blade geometry, there is a feeling of satisfaction in this knife that I cannot explain when I hold it in my hand.

Haven't considered going custom. I wouldn't even know where to start
I ordered mine about 6 weeks ago. And other day I saw that it's in my city now. So I should have it soon hopefully. Price - around 300€.

Think about it...
You decide:
Blade shape
Geometry
Handle
Steel
Sheath

Everything is your call. And you can even pick steels that are not comercially available, same how I did.

Cudemans are awesome. I got a large bowie and was very impressed. Also check out Joker knives. The Joker Lynx is impressive

I only have one Lionsteel (warhorse) but it is top shelf in every way. I'd strongly consider one were I stuck in Europe.

There are makers in Europe on this site selling blades every day....... Have a look at the link below and pick a knife that calls you..... Talk to the maker!!!

My thoughts too.

No factory knife will fit you as well as the knife that was made for you.

Also, attention to detail also puts quality to another level. Because these makers put pride in their work and are basically putting their name on the blade.

First off, hello blade forum.

I do lightweight outdoor activities maybe.. 5 times a year (sleep in a shelter, do lightweight bushcraft stuff, wood carving etc). I don't do serious hardcore bushcrafting or survival stuff. I carry a small hultafors axe for log splitting so no batoning needed.

I'm having a really difficult time picking a new fixed outdoors blade! Budget isn't really a constraint, but I do live in Europe so that's a factor with shipping etc.

So I'm not looking for longer blades than maybe 12-13cm. Nothing heavy for chopping or batoning. More lightweight wood carving, feather sticking, that still has the ability for a little more heavy duty stuff if needed.

Any grind will do really, doesn't have to be a Scandi.

Here's what I've been looking at so far. Any suggestions etc to help me pick is most appreciated.

Helle Didi Galgalu

Casström No. 10 Swedish Forest Knife, 14C28N Scandi Grind

Bradford Guardian 5.5S, CPM 3V, Sabre

Helle Utvaer 600

Fällkniven F1x Elmax

Oh yeah I should probably add, I'm looking for a 'premium' knife. Love me some Mora's but this buy isn't that.

Had an F1x. Not a fan. Heavy, uncomfy handle and floppy thin rubber scales.

I would look at the F1 cos instead of this one.

Yeah as far as I know Joker makes the blanks for Casstrom and Helle? And they basically sell the same knifes just cheaper with their own name on. Not sure if correct but I read that somewhere.

I have reached out to a few smiths from this site. The prices for a custom handmade knife isn't that bad. I'm surprised.

Can anyone recommend any European makers?

I have the Casström no. 10 SFK in 14C28N. I can highly recommend it. It's beautiful with its curly maple scales and it does everything you need it to do. The handle shape is among the most comfortable I've ever used.

I would recommend a puukko by malanika malanika .
He works with a variety of steels & handle materials.
Give me a minute, I'll try to dig up a picture of mine...

I would take a look at Architect Knives. Their AK 4.5 in Magnacut, S35VN, or CPM 3V would be worth looking at. Great prices! I just got their AK6.5 and I love it! Great ergonomics, blade geometry, and heat treatment!

Lots of good suggestions here. Also Lionsteel in M4 would be solid. I'd opt for the knives and tools magnacut version but I am sure the standard m390 one would also do just fine.
