Ok, I got you. I wasn't aware that dealers weren't listing it either. That is kind of silly, as presumably they would have the knife in hand they are selling and should be able to list the blade steel quite easily. I'm also not sure why Microtech themselves would decline to tell you when asked. Sounds kinda lazy if you ask me. I get them not listing a blade steel for a representative model on their site, since it is subject to periodic change, but it makes no since why they couldn't tell you what is currently being used in production if directly asked. Still, like said earlier, I've never seen them make a model with a substandard steel, so I personally wouldn't sweat it if I were in the market for one.I was on a dealer's site when I seen that the steel wasn't listed. I mean I guess I could call & ask what steel is used, but I just found it odd that it wasn't listed. Here's the note on KnifeCenter:
- Please note, blade steel cannot be specified as it can change depending on availability (information from Microtech)
The guy i buy mine from says that they are very pop-up shopish when it comes to what they send. Because they change up the the colors, blade shapes, steels, etc and because they sell everything they make, they just kind of send what they send. When he first became interested in selling them, they basically had him cut a $10,000 check and sent him a box of stuff. No ordering, no asking for particulars. Just, "Here ya go..". But, he's the only BnM store in a hundred miles that I am aware of. They sell like crazy.I know a dealer once said something to the effect of, "It's always a surprise to see what came in the box from Microtech this time." Essentially it sounds like Microtech makes whatever they make for that month and send it to dealers, rather than the dealers putting in specific orders for steel, colors, configurations, etc. I'm guessing to save time, the dealers created a listing on their site like "Green Ultratech" or "Purple UTX-85" so they could just re-stock those listings, rather than create a new listing each time. In that case it's smart of them to leave steel type out of the listing, because you know someone is going to come here or go to the dealer's social media and throw a hissy fit that they got 204P when the listing said M390 or vice versa.
I only have one Microtech the Exocet sandtrooper version and it's more of a novelty piece for me but I just realized that there is no marking on the steel. Definitely without a doubt super weird of them to not mark what type of steel you're getting and at their price points I find that for sure odd and unacceptable. Definitely something to consider before ever purchasing another Microtech.
None of the Star Wars models I’ve ownedEvery one I have owned and seen has the steel engraved on the blade.
It is either CTS-204p/M390 (same composition steel from two makers) or it is Elmax. So, M390 or Elmax.None of the Star Wars models I’ve owned
Show the blade steel, maybe just an aesthetic choice, I’ve not lost any sleep over it but it would be nice if at least the box listed the info!
Why? Just curiousI always disliked this about MT. I’ve been lucky to get M390 blades but if I was to get an Elmax I’d return it. I’m not a fan of Elmax at all.
It’s irrational really. I had a ZT Elmax blade years ago and it had a horrible heat treat and ever since that I’ve not been a fan of Elmax or ZTsWhy? Just curious
