How to identify a factory seconds

All the old ones look like factory 1sts to me, or should I say factory 2nds? :D

Oh shoot, I just let the cat outta the bag and Silver will find out that I'm getting a GSO 10 soon despite how ugly I had opined that a GSO 10 was in the past

I think Casino changes knives as much as he does his underwear. He is certainly having his appetite whet!

I remember that back in my "disco" days a popular pick up line went something like this, "chicks dig me because I rarely wear underwear and when I do, it's something exotic" :p

You mean a bore??? Life is never boring when you're around ;)

Ah shit Coiled, I'm just gonna say it.

Casino will back me up on this, using deductive logic we are pretty certain a number of knives that are 2nds were sold on the big Auction site as firsts.

There the cat is out of the bag.

And still are ;)

I know that you will not do that, but here is a snippet of a typical email from me:

CS: Hi, can you please confirm that this is a Survive! Factory 1st and not their Factory 2nd? I am quite familiar with Survive! and know how to check the difference.

Seller: I don't think so, but I don't know for sure. I bought it as a 1st, unless they have lied about it to me!

CS: Well I know they do not do that because I am quite familiar with their sales operation. Are you willing to remove the handle scales and check for the Factory 2nd marking behind the handle scales?

Seller: I am sorry but the knife is not with me right now so I will have to check this out later.

CS: Fair enough, but if I buy it and I find out that it is a Factory 2nd, I will have to send it back for a complete refund. I know that you stated, "no returns", but eBay covers me for: Sent, Not As Described (SNAD).

Crickets......

HAHAHAHA. You are right, I won't bother with it, but will get a good chuckle out of it if someone does. Get a chunk of your money back for sure. I bought fake shoes once and got to keep the shoes and most of my money.

Who put that dang cat in a bag in the 1st place?!

And your point is exactly why I avoid the big auction site for anything sharp.

There's this old school GSO 5.0 over there on the Auction Site which I'm getting the itch for. The price is a bit too steep and since I already have got one in my very meager "collection", I'm not going to act too crazy about it for now. That said, maybe it will not sell and then I can use my supreme charm and negotiation prowess to pry it from its current owner at a more advantageous price point ;)

To come back to an earlier post by Silver about some of us being like sims, or was it like "bores"? Anyway, if you had watched the "Chasing Classic cars" series on the telly, for some of us, buy/sell/trade/use/not abuse, the fun of this hobby in terms of collectible/user is all in the chase :)

Do it Casino. Message him and take it.

Dual wield GSO5s.

You have 2 hands, no reason you shouldn't have two of them. You are gonna flip that 10 anyways.

I'll even let you send it to me to see how it fits in the hand, maybe I will start collecting them as well!!

Technically speaking I only have 1 & 4.75/5 good hands left ;)

I just received the GSO 10. Heavier hunk of metal than Nate's LC. No where as sharp out of the sheath and a completely different beast altogether than the CPK-LC. I'll have to clean it up and strop it a little to make it cut paper effortlessly as it is a bit too toothy right now. That said, popping hairs and slicing paper is just one way of testing sharpness but the real test is determined by how it munches way his through wood!

I'm but on that old school GSO 5 at around $250 - $275 if I really had to. Not $290 + shipping. I really wished for Guy himself to earn more of my business but alas... Ahhh...

P.S. good news is that the color combo on this GSO 10 looks way better in person and that handle does not look as dull and lackluster as a rotting carcass of a rattler! The seller had taken bad photos, so I don't need to sink more $$ into this for now by ordering extra handle scales. I also cleaned up some of the surface "patina" with Flitz already and it is a nice chunk of 3V. Some sheath related scratched on the Port side, but doesn't bother me as much on these tumbled ones as it would on the new peened finish, TBT.

Thanks for the info Casino. Interesting...

Coiled had asked me about their differences in an email and this is a comparison hard-to-head, from a visual aspect and then onto the scales:

"The GSO 10 from the heel to the toe of the blade is a smidgen longer and just the knife without the
sheath weighs in at 1 lb. 4 ounces versus the CPK-LC at about 1 lb. 1 ounce. The blade thicknesses are
the same at 3/16 but the GSO 10 is noticeably wider. The LC's blade curves up slightly before the dropped
nose while the GSO 10 goes straight with a dropped nose. The handle on the LC is a bit longer and thicker.
"

After playing with them I can categorically state that the GSO 10 is one mean looking, "ugly" and intimidating SOB of a knife, while the CPK-LC
is quite sleek with curves and contours, but devastatingly sharp and light with better balance. But then again we are comparing a 2013 large GSO
with a 2016 CPK. Two different propositions!

Think an older Tyson v Holyfield ;)

This is not exactly a news flash but rather amusing to me, to say the least! I rummage through eBay almost on a daily basis to see if I can find the older GSO models to which I have become quite partial to, more so than their newer ones, perhaps because I had missed the boat back when and also because I find the older ones to be richer in character! Anyway, what I find amusing but certainly no surprising is that a few weeks after each Monday sale, a number of GSO just appear on eBay in batches and the seller conveniently omits the most crucial part of the disclosure ;)

Suffice to say that after all the most recent listings which have been sold (all GSO 4.7) in the $300 - $400 range, all that is left for now are the same old stale GSOs which have been on there for a good few months.
