If you had to pick one Victorinox, which one would it be?

One Victorinox? The Explorer and Explorer Plus has always hit the sweet spot for me.

I would probably pick the pioneer. Because it's what the soldier model turned into, and it's the closest thing to the Vietnam issue demo knife. I hope victorinox expands on their alox series, im a little surprised they havnt already, alox huntsman, tinker, Spartan anyone?

I'd be interested in a Cadet X

My pick is the Live to Explore Companion. I got it for Crristmas 2023 and it's been in my pocket since then, carried in my left pocket with a titanium pocket dangler. It gets used multiple times a day.

The tool I use the most is (surprizingly) the package opener. It not only opens packages, but also opens packs of ramen (and other food related items), those broken plastic tear-off rings that seal bottles, serves as a teeny pry bar, and takes care of any small ugly cutting tasks with its serrated section.

Second most used tool would be the bottle opener for opening bottles, prying, and screw tightening.

Third most used would be a toss up between the main blade and the file.

Unsurprizingly, the most unused tool is the hook, but I'm still glad it's there.

If the choice had to be made for a survival situation though, I'd choose my SwissChamp with plus scales, mini screwdriver, and belt sheath.

Great thread!

I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses.

This answer has changed over the years.
I’d go for a “Tourist” or “Spartan”, depending on what’s still available

As far as I'm concerned, the Farmer X is the alox version of the Huntsman. Same tools.

The tools that I like are a 2 blade (main blade, smaller blade), both the flathead with the can opener that I can use in place of a phillips, but a phillips would be nice. Saw is a must, the awl that is on the alox versions. A magnifier would be nice, but not a must.
The closest I can come up with is the Farmer X, where I can use the scissors in place of the small secondary blade that is missing. Just missing a magnifying glass.
I have an old Champion or champion plus that has all that and more, but trying to whittle it down to just what I use. I think a huntsman is close, just has extras that I don't use much and lacks the alox awl. Have I overlooked a perfect combo?

I wish they would retire some tools, in stead of a stupid parcel hook I'd love a tool that I would actually get some use out of, maybe a third blade or a light duty pry bar

I've been thinking about this question. Trying to come up with an answer. I am sure glad I live in a world were I don't have to have just one SAK. I thought of several. I think I would have to get sentimental and say my Huntsman. It was my first since I was an adult. The ones I had as a kid I can't remember what they were or if they were real SAK's or not. But the Huntsman my wife bought me the year we were married. I think it was for my birthday before our wedding. That would be January 1989. She had my initials engraved on the back handle.
