Jeans thread - your favorite?

So the search continued after the Great Wrangler migration. The search was long and painful. I tried a bunch of different jeans. Some even were ranch made by ranch wives. Didn't find anything that really worked for me.

Anybody wear Kimes Ranch jeans?

Then along came Kime's jeans. Designed here in California and made in the USA. I first noticed some of the younger cowboys around here wearing them. Those that rodeoed a little too. They seemed to like them. After a while ya started seeing more and more of them around. I eventually tried a couple three pair. I ended up giving all three pair away. There were several things I didn't like about them. I found their denim to be "clingy." It would outline the top of the boot and even sag down into it. I'd tried three different styles and I just couldn't find a fit I liked. The worse part I think for me though probably sounds kind of funny, but they got real dirty real fast. Kinda that clingy thing again. The dirt would just cling to them. Most cowboys gonna wear that jean more than once before tossing it in the laundry bin. I just couldn't with the Kimes. Ya go and do a lil work and you looked filthy. Funny deal, I sometimes ankle carry a gun when the situation requires such carry. Ya just couldn't in the Kimes, it looked like ya had a "growth", as the wife would say.

I don't know any cowboys around here that wear Kimes anymore. But I would have to say, almost all cowgirls around here wear them. I would say at least in these parts they dominate that market. Even still my wife and daughter were talking about them the other day and about how they have been disappointed in the quality of the Kimes recently. They were planning a shopping trip to try something else out. All their new pairs were having trouble with the rear pockets. none of the older pairs ever had but all the new ones were. Like the material was unraveling from the inside. They felt at a buck and half a pair ($150), they shouldn't be. My wife Nichole in a pair of Kimes:

Ya know it feeding time again.

We drove to the closest boot barn this past year. Even though they stock Cinch, which makes long inseams, stores don't seem to stock those rare sizes. At least not that we've found yet.
They don’t stock everything. I order from them on line then if needed I return them to the store. Makes it easier.

Duluth trading too.

I called Cinch Jeans. Of their 10-ish styles/labels we narrowed it down to two that are original (high) rise for my long-legged 17 year old: Bronze Label (slim fit) and Green Label (relazed fit). She is going to get and email me the actual rise measurement in inches so we can see if it'll be a fit - or close enough to warrant ordering a couple pairs and trying them on.

Well certainlykaeep us informed how the hunt goes.

So for myself after trying these different jeans I kinda went back to slim fit Wranglers. Never super liked em but a guy has to wear something right? We were at a Boot Barn in Norco Calif. Norco is a large horse community with trails right through the middle of town. Many stores have pens out front to put your horse in why you shop etc. So they have a pretty big Boot Barn. My wife found this pair of these Ians by Cinch as were not really looking for anything specific just shopping and said to try em on. I did and went wow. I had tried the regular Cinch jeans and that extra wide leg just had never been me. These didn't have that. And they were just darn comfortable.. I've got five pair now and the Great Wrangle Migration is over, at least for me. There are three things I don't like about them. 1) Price, they are expensive at $85 a pop. (2) Not super keen on the dye job. They come with that faded look on purpose on part of the leg, like they're used some. All dark blue would work for me and let em fade on their own. But it's really not that big a deal. (3) Also not that big a deal but I could do without the embroidery on the back pockets. Many jeans have that nowadays and these aren't too bad but could be cleaner.

I put on a pair of my old Wranglers the other day as I was gone be putting bolsters on a batch of knives. So got out my oldest threadbare pair because I can get grimy and stained doing this. After putting on the bolsters we saddled up and worked some horses. I got down went in and changed my jeans. The Wranglers were that uncomfortable. Interestingly we had four tradesmen at the house the other day giving us estimates on work we're having done. Three of the four were wearing Cinch jeans. The fourth was wearing Wrangler 20Xs. So pretty much it.

Big fan of Diamond Gusset, US made and wear well;
^ I'll throw my vote with Diamond Gusset as well. Just follow their guide on how to measure for the correct size and you should be good. And for motorcycle riders, they have a line just for you. The Defender series has kevlar in the most needed areas, but they retain the look of regular jeans.

I checked out Cinch on boot Barn's website. I agree on the dye job and embroidery. Could certainly do without both.
I need relaxed fit jeans and so far Wrangler and Lee have been the most comfortable for me.
Unfortunately, the store near me does not keep a large selection of my size and fit on hand. The first time buying a new brand I want to try on before buying.

Wrangler Five Star Flex for Comfort jeans. I live in the South where you can often times just about swim through the air and thick denim just wicks up the humidity and never dries out. The "Flex for Comfort" bit doesn't make them stretchy jeans, it just means it doesn't split up the boys if you have to bend or contort. No they aren't as long lasting but they do breath a little easier in this heat and humidity. I figure they are tough enough if Spyderco's G10 doesn't eat through the pockets.

Have you checked the Wrangler 20Xs for the relaxed fit. My son wears those as he has large thighs (defensive tackle when he played football in HS). They have worked better for him than the Cinches did. Easier to find that 40 outset that he needs too. They've been very durable for him as well. He's a working cowboy and they get used.

I have not but certainly will. I understand his situation

There’s some great info in this thread - thank you!

Let me run this one by you all: I'm having an EXTREMELY hard time finding pants to fit my 17 year old. He's young, tall, high waisted, and there isn't an ounce of fat on him - he wears 29 or 30 x38. No, I didn't type that backwards like Google always thinks when I search for pants for him. He wears a 38 inch inseam, and has a 29-30 inch waist.

The only jeans we have found that come close to fitting him - the only ones that sell a 29 or 30 x 38 are Wrangler Cowboy Cut, but even those don't have a high enough rise so he has a very uncomfortable wedgie all the time (I'll spare you those pictures) - but at least the length is correct.

The only pants he owns are several pairs of the Wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans and one that are vintage from eBay and khaki colored (they apparently don't make the khaki color in that size anymore) to wear when jeans aren't appropriate (still denim, but at least a different color). And he has a suit we had to have custom made for him for Sunday's, weddings, funerals, etc. That's it, those are all the pants he owns. Those are all the pants we have found in his size.

I'll send a free knife to the first one (maybe multiple people depending on response) who can turn me on to a source of 29-30x38 men's pants with a rise high enough to fit my son without giving him a wedgie. Bonus for non-denim khaki and dress pants.

Please! Don't let me down, Blade Forums!

Out of curiosity I went in search of this mythical jean...🙂

I was surprised to find several options of Steson Blues that appeared to be in stock in your son's size at the Western Company website. (I think they even had a 28x40 😳)

Anyway, good luck in your search!

Also like to add that this thread is greatly informative and appreciated!

I 2nd (or 5th or 9th) the quality and feel of Duluth Trading. Quality stuff.

Recently, I have picked up a few pairs of Levi's cheap/budget line called "Signature by Levi Strauss". They are usually on sale, and for $15 - $20, they are alright. Heck the legs are even the same length most of the time! 😆

One brand that I have wanted to try (but like others have stated, be nice to try on first) is Origin. Jocko Willink is an owner, all USA, supposed to be awesome, would just like some additional feedback before I upgrade from my bargain bins!! 🙂

Thank you! Unfortunately I only saw mid and low rise in my son’s size for the Stetsons. Cinch sent me some rise measurements so now I need to measure my son and see if they’ll fit. I should do that this weekend.

Dear god... I just visited my old faithful jeans supplier "Abercrombie". It's been a few years since I last re-upped so I decided to peep it out. The universe must be playing some practical joke on me because the entire clothing line is completely unrecognizable. These people used to have the best cut in the business, be it for button up shirts, khakis, or jeans. Now they are relegated to some monstrosity weirdo niche and I have no idea who they are marketing to.

I also needed new khakis so I have a test order from gap on the straight legs but hot damn every other style of theirs is a touch lavendar too. What is happening.

I just bought a set of vertx jeans. That are kind of marketed as the most tactical of jeans. (Stash pockets for handcuff keys, lead holes for walking talkies, pockets that fit machine gun mags. I mean the whole nine yards.)

And honestly they are surprisingly nice especially for dealing with heat and movement.

The theory is because the pockets are mesh and the fabric is a blend. They release heat and moisture so I can run and fight zombies all day while throwing chuck Norris head kicks at people.

The reality is they are noticeably cooler and there is more freedom of movement, you don't get that cling going up stairs.

The pockets which are mesh and bigger actually hold things. It's weird and I like it.

It has an extra side slip pocket that fits my Samsung phone. So I don't stab myself with it when I sit down. And I don't sit on it.

It has other features, some sort of weird knee. Wallet lock? Back pockets. (I have no idea)

But all in all these are a step above for a hot weather jeans

For the guy asking about skinny tall jeans. The are kind of too long for me at. 36,36.

So it might translate down.

It’s hard to imagine A&F was an actual outfitter years ago, selling all kinds of hunting equipment including knives and firearms.

Ya know it feeding time again.

Long and painful search indeed.

This week alone I've tried Wrangler and Gap. The wranglers were mexican made and fit great everywhere but the calves - way too much room and about 3-4 inches longer than any other 32 length pants I've owned.

I don't want massive baggy calves but I also dont want skinny jeans either. Hard to find a nice subtle taper now that Abercrombie has been DEI'd away from it's classic roots.

I guess I should be looking for a certain type of cut of jeans vs the maker. I went to order Levi's on amazon to try after being fed up (easy returns) and the estimated delivery is around 30 days away, no thanks.

Might just have to go to the mall and actually try something on. I haven't been to the mall in 20 years *shudders*.

Each makers sizing seems to run very differently. Gap's are arriving Thursday, will report back.
