Duncan, that 'Real Harness Knife' is a beauty.

The 85 pattern has become one of my favorite patterns ever since I received my SFO 85s in African Black wood. I didn't think that I would, but I love the shape of the spearpoint blade, and the Easy Open notch is a great addition!

Meet "Pardner"; I wasn't sure exactly what he'd be holding when I carved him, but he's become quite busy holdin' grandad's old Western States folding hunter, dad's Buck 303 and balancing my razor on his hat! Oh, and my mini-easy open collection too!

Wow Barry! You have great carving skills! Do you use pocket knives to do your woodwork?

I love the mini EZ Open collection!

Several of you gentlemen are artists with your cameras - very cool thread - really look forward to seeing what is going to show up next! OH

He's awesome. Your carvings are great pal, I'm so impressed. Everything I carve just ends up looking like a shrivelled, gone-off aubergine. What kind of wood do you use?

Paul

Thanks Paul! I use basswood, as it is very fine grained with even texture (no knots) and carves easily being a little harder than pine. If I was really good, I'd probably use cottonwood bark, as I understand it is quite easily carved and is uniform in texture. :)

Wow, Barry! You are an amazing whittler!

Thank you sir, but I'm afraid you overstate! :o

I do not use pocket knives for carving. I rough out my carving with a band saw, then use an assortment of chisels, gouges, scorps, and other various carving tools as they are easier to handle and much more versatile than pocket knives. I use pocket knives for just about everything else, though!

The little EO jacks are pretty cool; there are two types out there in the used market, most have shell handles. I collect the ones with solid celluloid handles and real pins, just like their full sized cousins. They're made exactly like a larger knife, only they're 2 inches closed. I don't know who the maker was, but they're US made. :)
