Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

I had corresponded with Ken some months back and he informed of the situation with his Dad, so sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family.

I like Ken and his work enormously. Seems ,when it rains it pours.

God bless you and yours Ken, thinking about you.

Sorry to hear of this. Thanks for letting us know, Elliott.

You're all very welcome. I only wish I hadn't been the bearer of sad news. That said, it troubled me that folks were concerned about Ken without an inkling of what was going on and I felt I had to do something. As always, Ken was gracious despite his normally private persona and gave his consent to share his current circumstances with his friends here.

Elliot thank you for letting us know.

Ken, my deepest condolences to you for your loss. I am sure I speak for all when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ken called this afternoon and actually sounded like he was doing pretty well--- if with a lot of stuff
to take care of yet.
Ken.

All the best, Ken! These have been trying times for you in many ways.
I hope you get to have life on an even keel for a while. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thanks for clarifying things, Elliott. It helps to know when friends are down. At the very least we can wish them well!

This guy came in today... kinda blown away by it..

Very nice piece Aaron , the action on Ken's EDC are phenomenal.

Here's what came in for me today. Has extremely snappy smooth action, seamless fit and finish and the sawcut bone tops it off.
One of Ken's earlier builds from 2010

Best wishes still to Ken

Ryouchijtx -- that build is older than 2010 (looks to be 06-07)

this is quoted from the man himself on page 17 of this thread

This might be a good time to outline the time line on my knives. One of the "traditional" ways to date a knife is by the tang stamp.

2002 to early 2006

A simple "K E" stamp using two individual stamps. All on fixed blade knives

2006

A few knives, maybe 3 or 4 marked with a vibrating engraving pencil

"ERICKSON" in script

2006 to 2007?

Electro-chemical etch. Almost all knives are slipjoints, one or two fixed blade

"ERICKSON"

2007? to present

Electro-chemical etch. All slipjoints

^thats the stamp on my blade which was made between 2008-10 - he switched to his current stamp in 2010.

Wow thank you for the info ISK. Helps date the other Erickson I have with the same tang stamp. The quality is sublime for being near a decade old now.

Impressive traditional folders around here!
