Ku Klux Klan Limited Edition by Case

Well not to change the subject completely.....
I just think that it's rather ODD that Ebay allows knives representing hate groups to be auctioned and they BAN all but TINY automatics AND Bali's!!!!!

Knives IN STOCK!!!!

First off, I think that it is just another collector knife, same as any other. No more, no less. Some will collect them for their hateful thinking, some will collect them as oddities.

They are CURRENT production pieces and sell from $75-$125. Now obviously, there is a market for them because a normal Trapper or Russlock, etc. does not sell for that much.

There have been about a half a dozen sold on Ebay in the last week or so. I do not however know if they are etched by Case. They do come with a tin and an emblem, but they might be done outside of the Case plant.

They have been made for at least the last several years, and the ones being sold on Ebay right now are 2000 model knives.(just do a search for completed auctions, and look at the markings in the pics.).

Just thought I'd fill in a few blanks. Whether it is right or not to make them is a different topic.

The KKK offend the hell out of me. I suppose some people collect these things. I know I had a Nazi flag once. My Dad picked it up in Italy during WWII, along with a machine gun, a sea bag of ammo and a sea bag of small guns. The spoils of war.

But I think Chad had a great idea and I admire his generous offer. I never really liked having that flag around. Always felt it belonged in a museum somewhere. Anyway, I gave it to my brother and who knows what he did with it.

THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NAZI KNIVES AND KKK KNIVES.

Nazis are dead, gone, part of history. The KKK are wannabe xenophobic SOBs that do nothing more than create problems for minorities, and make us decent white god-fearing people look bad. I feel that perhaps Nazi knives should be collected to remember the exact attrocities they committed. But KKK knives? Well, I wouldn't be caught dead owning one (and not just because I'm jewish).

There have been some interesting responses here. One thing I find interesting is the idea that Dead by Dawn should keep it because his father gave it to him. I have ask why did his father give him this particular knife? I can't help but think that it might reflect his father's values. Dead by Dawn already said he would keep the knife, and that is his business, still I wonder what the symbolism of the KKK means to him.

As for my decision not to patronize Case, this is my right just as it is Case's right to produce KKK commemoratives. Obviously, Case did not value non-white or Jewish consumers enough not to market such a knife so why should I value their products? By the way, the Case KKK knives I have seen at gun shows look pretty recent to me. I'm sure an expert like Bernard Levine would know for their age, maybe we should ask him.

I would have to disagree a little. The Nazi's are still around only with new names like neo nazi and aryan nation. But they like to cloak themselves with WWII garb. So still today, what's one person's collectible is another person's symbol of their 'movement.' There are many groups around today that buy Nazi trinkets, not to honor the victors, but to honor the losers. Such is life...

I`m sorry, Anthony, but I think the speculation about what the knife means to DBD or his dad is a bit out of line. Maybe we all ought to wonder why we`re so afraid to even have something like this in our house? Guilt by association? Afraid of what the neighbors may think? Unfortunately, we ARE the neighbors, and we are a jugdmental bunch. What`s good for you isn`t necessarily good for everyone else. Collectors will collect for a variety of reasons. It doesn`t always reflect on the person`s morality.

If you think that the KKK is the only group in this country to commit hate crimes then you are truely liveing in a bouble. You better open up your eyes and listen to your news once in awhile. I have seen many hate crimes committed right in LosAngeles on a couple of occasions since I have live in this state. So I guess there are a lot of things we shoould ban, bricks , fire bombs, gasoline, and many more. I think I will not buy anymore gas (not).

Angry are we?! I'm not taking up for them, and I'm certainly not offended by your post. But, you sound like them. I can't blame you though; I've always felt it was really bad to hate someone for something they could do nothing about (ethnic group, country, etc.).

Once again I state that I have no desire to ban anybody from owning anything, this is supposed to be a free country. By the same right, I have the right to speculate about a person's motivation for giving a particular present or for that person owning it. If Dead byDawn doesn't want people talking about him, he didn't have to make his possesion public knowledge.

OK Folks, I am going to let the cat out of the bag!!!

The majority of Case Comm. Knives, are not made by W.R. Case and Son... The knives are produced by them, and then the blades are etched, the boxes made, and the bolsters numbered, by an individual, or company, that is in no way affiliated with W.R. Case and Son Knife Company....

I have seen several *bootleg* Case Comm. Knives that Case had nothing to do with.... And Yes, I know absolutely for certain that this occurs.... If I was a betting man, I would lay a nice big fat chunk of $$$$ that W.R. Case and Son had absolutely nothing to do with this....

It happens all the time.... Just ask Case (if they would tell you) how many Plain Trapper models they manufacture and sell in a years time.... I bet it is a bunch... Guys buy'em in bulk, have all this stuff done, and then re-sale for a nice profit.... If it is legal or not, I do not know (I guess if there is no copyright infringement it isn't), but I can tell you for a fact that it is a pretty common thing....

Then again I could be wrong..... Case may have made a whole train load of KKK knives, but I doubt it....

If thats the kind of knives he collects, then thats his choice. In America anyone can hold any opinion they want, and you have the right to disagree with that opinion.I have my own beliefs and opinions about life that will not be swayed by anybody.I have no love for the KKK,Nazi or any other type oraganization, but as long as they are not committing crimes,I respect their right to hold whatever opinion they believe no matter how silly they may sound.I certainly do not feel ill-will towards anybody collecting that type of material no matter what the reason. Some of the posts that have been made about this thread have been out of line, making accusations about someones reason for having the knife or insinuating things about someones father.Whatever the reason for him having it is his business.Let's get back onto knives and the original topic. Hmmm.... Perhaps his dad was a collector of guns and knives. I do recall DBD stating that while other kids received toys, he was given guns and knives. Interesting how some are quick to jump up and shout foul when someone asks an honest question about a "spurious" topic.
I personally have no desire to own such a knife but if one were given to me by a family member as a gift(knowing my love of knives) I would not question their motives. I would accept the gift gracefully and then put it away.
I support no organization which espouses hate or division among any groups. I will however speak my mind as I'd expect others would as well.
To each his own.

I'd be more inclined to boycott a company that refused to make the knife.

I'm pretty sure that this was an aftermarket embellishment job, so boycotting Case is kind of "off target", but...

Gotta disagree here, Tom. There's a vast difference between tolerating free speech and helping hate groups to take advantage of that freedom. I may support a group's right to speak and assemble, but that doesn't mean I'll set up the equipment for them, or allow them to do it on my property.

If a company refuses to do work for a group because of their beliefs it is a threat to all the groups. That company could just as well refuse to do a knife with the star of david. Then the company would be wrong as you see it. It might seem a bit extreme but cansorship of any kind is a threat to all. That's why they are allowed to have their rallys as much as we all hate to see them.
To protect our freedom we have to allow them. Now as mentioned in another post does anybody believe e-bay should censor a knife like this?

The right to speak is also a right not to speak. Many companies make a point of staying apolitical, and I don't fault them for it - it's their right, and I would call it a right they are wise to exercise.

Should a company that prints bibles be forced to print them with Satanic symbols on the cover if such a bible were ordered? I believe that refusal would simply be an expression of their own faith. Those desiring such an item are not prevented from purchasing bibles of their own and marking them however they choose, the manufacturer is simply opting not to assist them.

A private company refusing to produce a product is not censorship. It's an exercise of freedom of speech, just like another private company choosing to produce the same article would be exercising theirs.

well, my faith in Case is restored.

I still wouldn't own that knife unless i was going to ram it into the eye socket of a grand wizard.

Jailhack, I am so glad you linked to that. I questioned early in this thread as to whether Case actually did this, and im glad they did not. To those above, I hope you reconsider your boycot of Case, and realize they did nothing wrong. I know JH linked to the thread, but I think the response from case desreves to be re-printed right here....Shirley from Case knives says :

Hi James and Theavenger,
I certainly can verify what Theavenger has said. Case has never produced anything like this and never will. Someone has taken our stag trapper, put their artwork on the blades, and packaged it in their own container.

We have been trying to educated our collectors regarding how to verify Genuine and Authorized Case Collectibles. In the last CCC Newletter, we ran an article on page 7. In this article we showed the Longtail C which is a trademark for serialized collectibles that Case produces and distributes.

The Genuine Collectable Medallion is pictured in this article also. This is included in collectable items that have been developed and sold by Case through Authorized Case Dealers. These items may or may not have a serial number.

The aftermarket job which is done on many of our standard product is very deceiving to the consumer. We are striving to make the public aware of these bogus "Case Collectors Series" sets.

You can be certain that Case has more integrity than to produce garbage like this KKK Set.

Thanks,

Shirley @ Case
