On a whim I saw it on the bay and I put a bid in and I was the only bidder so I got it for 60 plus shipping.

Now I have a 73 with liner lock and a few other older GEC’s but this is the only one I have ever seen where the back spring turned black.
Looking in the channel though it is shiny with some pepper spots.

So has anyone else ever seen a GEC with a black back spring such as this one?

The knife is definitely a user and I plan on cleaning it it up a little and getting a nice edge on it.
Even though it has a bit of wear it has excellent walk and talk and the pull is fairly stiff, probably a 7.5-8.

The 73 is a fantastic pattern and I am super happy to have come across this as my locking 73 is bone handled and has the contoured swell like stag handles.
I muck prefer to carry the slab covers and acrylic is probably my favorite type covers with wood being a close second.

Thanks John - as you can see it needs some repairs! Now that I have the time I might make a few more
