Lets talk pocket slip / sheath / organizer carry

Except for my Sunday go to meeting knives if I have to protect them from being in my pocket I ain’t gonna carry it. My edc work and play knives are gonna get used and probably scratched up some so I don’t worry about looks. I like some wear to show.

I don't use slips/pouches often but Buckaroo sheaths come in handy when I do.

I do as well.

I will say however that I was taken back a bit once when a knife developed some major bolster wear much faster than expected, I knew it was going to happen eventually and was okay with that but for some reason it surprised me.

Tried carrying phone in pocket. Can't do it. Belt holster. Guess I'm an old man! All my children (ages 17-31) just stick theirs in a pocket.

I can't manage to pocket carry my smartphone either... Drives me nuts. My old flip phone went lfp over my multi tool. Now everyone gets mad that 5hey can't get ahold of me because I usually leave my phone in the truck. I don't pocket my wallet or keys anymore either, my keys stay in the ignition, my front door is unlocked. My wallet only gets pocketed when I go into the store, either a cargo pocket in the summer when I'm wearing shorts, or the breast pocket of my jacket this time of year when such things are required.

Same here, wallet goes in breast pocket of my flannel shirt or jacket, and my keys hang from my belt loop though I do only have 4 or so on my keychain.

If I'm carrying more than one which might include a custom I'll carry it in a custom bison slip made by Hulen Wilhite. One particular beauty just found a new home thanks to Paul Chui Chui . Thank you. Sometimes it will be a wallet and a knife or sometimes a knife in a button flap shirt pocket. The more pockets the better.20201221_131308_copy_1024x1278.jpg

Left back pocket... Wallet
Right back pocket... Phone
Left front pocket... Larger pocket knife and work keys
Right front pocket... Bulky car keys and sometimes a modern knife
Watch pocket... Sometimes a smaller pocket knife or a Gerber Shard
Shirt pocket... Pens, pencils, and reading glasses

I never gave pocket carry any thought before I started carrying a phone. If I use the phone, I need my glasses and then I have more drek than I have pockets. Usually, I leave the phone and glasses in the truck, because no one wants to talk to me anyway.

I usually carry my knives in a slip, but every now and then I feel like taking a few with me to play with, so I actually made a mini roll that carries 3.

Like this idea, a roll-up looks very neat, you could make that in a soft leather too, great thing for taking a few knives with you on a week-end trip  Most slips, sheathes whatever are too thick for my liking, French made examples tend to be in softer nappa type leather which I find good for protection if you're travelling with a few knives on a journey.
Basically though, I dislike carrying anything in my trouser pockets apart from knife of the day, top-coat carries the others. My work-phone is smart but that stays in a bag, my own phone is a simple 'senior' type as I'm only interested in using it for texts or calls and nothing is so important it can't wait so I have it around the home or in the car but I don't want or need it about me constantly.
Think what it was like in the days when many people smoked..;) especially a pipe demanded a lot of carry space, pouch, tins of tobacco, matches/lighter, pipe tool/knife. Gave you something to fiddle with though :D

Over the years, I tried slips and pouches, but came to the conclusion that they are just too much hassle. My two main carry knives are slip joints, which are slow going anyway, so adding another step only slows down the process. Luckily, my sweet spot on EDC knives is 3 1/4" long when closed and I mostly wear jeans, so they fit perfectly, securely, and protected in the watch pocket and can be easily retrieved when sitting. Obviously, the watch pocket does not work for larger knives, so I understand the desire to look for alternative carry methods. The last thing I want is my knife and car keys sumo wrestling. :D

If only I could get proper lefty friendly Jeans with a left side watch pocket.

Old timey stud closure, primarily for a 6OT/7OT and 110.
A 4 3/8 to 4 5/8 inch stockman also fits right nice, should I ever forego the lockback for some strange and/or weird reason, and decide to sheath carry a stockman.

(presently contains a vintage 1095 bladed 7OT.)

I used to carry my phone on my belt when I had a flip phone , but these smart phones are pretty large and I also don't want to put time or money into a leather holster for it when the next phone I inevitably need probably won't fit.
Add the rubber cover that protects it from the occasional drop ( never cracked a phone screen in my life ) and it's just easier for ms to pocket carry even though I'd prefer otherwise.
You also can't really get quality cases for the more affordable phones either.

One word, my friend:

"Fanny Pack" :D

With the right one, it'll carry a 8 inch tablet, government size 1911, 4 inch barrel J frame, Loceren .380, cell phone (in plastic/rubber anti-drop damage case), extra mags and a couple speed loaders, Mora Number 1 and/or Western L66, and up to a 8 inch trucker/biker wallet with chain, all at the same time. :D

I guess I'm simply un-organized, and don't really care if my knives get banged around a little. Pocket slips have always seemed bulky to me, and only add to the time/effort to deploy. Coins, pocket knives in right front pocket. Keys, etc, in left front. Wallet and comb in right back pocket, left back pocket empty, except for the odd times that I put my phone there. Cargo pants pockets add storage area for multiple knives, which is why I wear them most of the time.

I AM impressed by how organized many of you are... I was not blessed with the "organization" gene...

I suppose it’s because for most of my life I only carried Old Timers and SAKs, but it never occurred to me not to just drop my knife in my right front pocket along with my keys and coins. (Case in point - 1983 Wenger I carried daily for a few years. That shield used to be red.)

I have more variety now, but still nothing which would justify special handling. Maybe someday.........
