The other solution is that you can seal it with a coat of clear polyurethane. The whole thing will darken (slightly) but uniformly and then it won't change again.
 
I've never used wd40, the smell for some reason has always bothered me, since 06' I have used mineral oil which is orderless, clear and for those of you who like to lick your handles it has no flavor:thumbup: All of these end pieces from the handle slabs had at one point a light coat of mineral oil on them to bring out the colors
